Eaton’s ES AMER PCS ICD division is currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer (Design).

Job summary

The Senior Mechanical Engineer (Components) is responsible for the creative design and development, sustaining engineering product line support of Industrial Control products for Electro-Mechanical Power Control and Input Devices including Push Button, Selector Switches, Contactors, Starters, Overloads and Soft Starters. This position will be responsible to the overall electro-mechanical design and support of the product with involvement in projects such as NPI, Line Extension, VAVE, Design Robustness and Product Stewardship from initiation thru manufacturing launch. Functional responsibility includes design, simulation, testing and certification of the components plus systems as well as product qualification for performance, reliability, DFMA, and cost optimization using DFSS as guideline. This position will work closely with other ICD Design Centers, Operations teams, Product Line Marketing Managers, VAVE Engineers, Supply Chain and others.

The incumbent should possess excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with others in a high paced environment.

Job responsibilities

  1. Develop new products and support existing, participate in team new product development/introduction, innovation, idea creation and implementation for a range of ICD products, including but not limited to such as push buttons and logic devices, contactors, starters, overloads (electronic and thermal) and soft starters.

  2. Provide technical soundness of design decisions and products changes to facilitate manufacturing, reduce cost, substitute material, improve quality and accommodate special customer needs.

  3. Support and provide sustaining engineering for existing products.

  4. Serve as the mechanical design owner (RDE), make engineering decisions based on product performance test results, inspection reports, tooling assessments, DFMA considerations, product cost metrics and team input.

  5. Coordinate product design updates and test report preparation per regulatory standards (UL, CSA, NEC, IEC, CCC and other codes), works with internal and external stakeholders for technical report approvals.

  6. Perform mechanical engineering 3D and 2D CAD solid modeling, drawing creation and maintenance, Design validation through mechanical simulation including Static, Dynamic and Thermal simulations, Prototype preparation, create product and process specifications, BOM structure creation, systems development, product testing/results analysis and design validation and product deviations disposition.

  7. Create and coordinate product performance Design Verification test plans and reports (DVP&R) with internal and external labs.

  8. Participate in NPI, Line Extension, VAVE, Product Robustness, Product Stewardship, other projects and engage with multi-disciplined teams to achieve goals using ProLaunch and other project management tools.

  9. Participate in Voice of the Customer (VOC) product, market requirements research and competitive benchmarking, working along with product managers and sales engineers.

  10. Leverage Eaton business standard processes for product development assignments (i.e., Design for Six Sigma, ICD design standards, CR/CO processes, product safety assessment, FMEA, BOM structure, manufactured product cost estimations, project timeline and milestone planning).

  11. Support Product Stewardship and 3rd party certifications and regulatory compliance initiatives including but not limited to REACH, RoHS, WEEE, California Proposition 65, TSCA, IHM, etc.

  12. Ensure timely completion and accurate results delivered to project commitment dates."

Qualifications:

Education level required

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Mechatronic, Industrial, Electronic or Electromechanical Engineering, or similar engineering careers.

Years and area of experience required

  • Minimum experience of 3–5 years in similar positions.

Technical knowledge

  • Bilingual: English/Spanish.

  • CAD/SolidWorks/CREO modeling experience and the ability to develop 2D drawings and assembly documentation including design intent, Minitab, MS Office, AutoCAD or equivalent (and drawing interpretation skills),

  • Mechanical simulation using Ansys, Creo, SolidWorks or equivalent software.

  • PLM Systems such as Enovia and production environment system knowledge such as Mapics/AS400.

  • Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) or DMAIC Lean Six Sigma Certified (preferred)

  • Minitab or other SPC (Statistical Process Control) tools, 6 Sigma and ISO9001."
