Sarasota County Government Water Treatment Plant Operator in Sarasota, Florida

Come and be a part of the Public Utilities Department as a Water Treatment Operator. You get to operate and maintain mechanical and electrical equipment in connection with the operation of water treatment plant facilities and distribution systems.   • Collect, record, and interpret data for completion and utilization of operation and maintenance records.

  • Collect samples and perform chemical analyses.

  • Perform daily operations of pumps, motors, valves, and other treatment plant equipment as directed so that the plant will operate within the parameters of this operating permit and specific rules established by the applicable regulatory agencies.

  • Respond to emergency operational requirements as needed.

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on pumps, motors, valves, and other treatment plant equipment.

  • Perform housekeeping and grounds maintenance.

Shift Schedule: 40-hour shifts, Sunday - Saturday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

About You

Minimum Qualifications:

Trainee:

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Ability to obtain a Class “C” Water Treatment Plant Operator’s license within two (2) years.

  • Valid Florida Driver’s License at time of hire.

Operator:

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Possession of a Class “A” “B” or “C” Water Treatment Plant Operator’s License as issued by the State of Florida.

  • Valid Florida Driver’s License at time of hire.

Physical Demands:

  • Must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.

Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.

*Must wear Uniforms and Safety Shoes.

About Everything Else

Treatment Plant Operator C:

Starting Pay: $23.24 (Step 1)

Potential higher pay (steps) for those with multiple years of experience.

Treatment Plant Operator B:

Starting Pay: $24.39 (Step 1)

Potential higher pay (steps) for those with multiple years of experience.

Treatment Plant Operator A:

Starting Pay: $25.61(Step 1)

Potential higher pay (steps) for those with multiple years of experience.

Trainee Pay Rate:

Starting Pay: $20.92 (10% Less than the minimum when in Trainee Status)
