Role Summary

The Director, Cargo Compliance. Safety and Support sets the long-term strategy and oversees the financial performance for cargo compliance, the Cargo Call Center, and Cargo Network Support Programs for the Cargo Division at Alaska Airlines (AS) and Horizon Air (QX). As a people leader, this role establishes strategic goals and direction for a team of leaders and individual contributors to ensure industry-leading standards of compliance, safety and quality are maintained.

Key Duties

  • Influence system station operations leaders and stakeholders to support compliance activities.

  • Partner cross-divisionally with Airport Operations & Customer Service, IT and Finance to drive the application of effective compliance and cost across for the cargo division.

  • Ensures Known Shipper and Cargo Claims departments are managed as per established regulations.

  • Direct all aspects of cargo operations 24 hours/day with full authority to make decisions critical to maintaining Company cargo operating and safety objectives.

  • Establish the long-term strategy for the cargo operations including long term policies and procedures, productivity enhancements, and the operationally impacted elements of the cargo technology roadmap.

  • Spearhead the company’s Unit Load Device (ULD) management and procurement process.

  • Develop people through effective performance management and ongoing feedback, focusing on fostering strategic and systems thinking, development of talent, and succession planning across teams and disciplines.

  • Shape culture of the team through action, presence, and reinforcement of behaviors.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 8 years of operations management and/or regulatory compliance experience.

  • 5 years of leadership experience, with at least 2 of those years directly leading people.

  • Bachelor's degree, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.

  • Ability to develop new ideas to improve safety, compliance and efficiency.

  • Ability to present complex problems and situations to senior/executive leadership and to drive resolutions with limited guidance.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence and drive change cross-divisionally for mutually beneficial strategic and operational impact.

  • Strong communication (e.g., verbal, written, presentation) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to create collaborative relationships that drive outcomes in the best interest of the company, with others in the organization, and with key external business partners.

  • Exceptional integrity, with impeccable ethics in safety and compliance.

  • Innovative, apolitical, resilient, fact-based and creative solutions-focused mindset, with ability to thrive in a rapidly changing, collaborative environment and to manage conflict.

  • Demonstrated ability to quickly scope situations, develop an accurate understanding of risks, and develop plans responsive to those risks.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Salary Range

$157,700 - $252,300 / year

Total Target Compensation Range (incl. bonus & equity)

$206,810 - $329,790

Salary Details

The pay range and total target compensation package listed above is the expected pay offered for this position at the start of employment. Your pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, your relevant experience/level, experience level, and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

Note: We don't typically hire at the top of the range.
