The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology has an outstanding opportunity for a Clinical Laboratory Technician 2 WORK SCHEDULE

  • High school graduation or equivalent AND two years of chemical, clinical, or public health laboratory experience PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Respond to Emergency, Operating Room and other clinical areas that require transfusion support with blood components if needed

  • Provide customer service and communication with patient care areas and blood centers. Call products orders to floor. Take verbal orders for blood products as needed.

  • Perform blood components processing to maintain inventory and support for transfusion patient including thawing, irradiating, washing, volume reduction

  • Performs issue and return of blood products following policies and procedures including equipment maintenance and quality control

  • Combine/Pool/aliquot blood components if necessary

  • Operate laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, portable refrigerators, plasma thawers, sterile docker, irradiator, cell washer, refrigerator, platelet rotator and freezers.

  • Participate in demonstrating simple laboratory techniques to students and new employees.

  • Perform laboratory specimen processing consisting of receiving, identifying, assigning accession numbers, sorting, preparation and internal laboratory distribution of blood and other biological specimens.

  • Respond to inquiries concerning patient lab values, reference ranges, specimen requirements, procedures, time required for tests, and preparation of specimens to outside labs for analysis.

  • Perform data processing and clerical tasks as required.

  • Perform the work of a Clinical Laboratory Assistant.

  • Perform related duties as required.

  • Reviews and signs off on new and revised documents within specified time period.

  • Completes all training modules and documentation within specified time period.

  • Assist with training and competencies as needed.

  • Follows hospital and departmental policies and procedures
