Blue Origin LLC Propulsion CFD Analyst in Seattle, Washington

This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight. As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers, you will provide fluid analyses for various liquid rocket engines with focus on fluid dynamics modeling of engine components. The fluid dynamics analysis team contributes to the design and test support of all Blue Origin rocket engines. This is an opportunity to demonstrate your fluid dynamics knowledge and grow in the profession by using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) as a tool. The team is focused on high Reynolds number internal RANS/URANS flow problems solved with multi-processor computers. This job will expose you to several physical sub-modeling processes like complex thermodynamics properties, combustion, and cavitation. In this role you will be primarily supporting the design process by determining fluid environments using CFD and other analysis tools. You will interact with designers and other analysts to ensure our rocket components meet design requirements. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Evaluating rocket engine component designs to evaluate level of analysis needed Building three dimensional models of components including grid generation, boundary conditions definition and solution methodology. Interrogate solutions to ensure modeling accuracy and to provide engineering values, and trends to meet customer needs. Document analysis process and results. Communicate understanding to broader engineering audience. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in engineering or a relevant technical field. 2+ years of experience in fluids analysis using CFD. Knowledgeable in CFD theory including numerics, boundary condition types, and turbulence models. Ability to work effectively in teams with high quality documentation. Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion. Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in engineering or relevant technical field. Experience in rocket industry. Experience with research level CFD modeling. Good understanding of liquid rocket theory and component requirements. Knowledge of commercial CFD analysis packages, CFD++ and/or CRUNCH CFD. Experience with solving CFD models using large (100-1000's+ CPU cores) parrel computers.
