Alaska SeaLife Center Custodian 1 or 2 in Seward, Alaska

Custodian 1

Summary:

This position is responsible for the cleanliness and appearance of the building and grounds at the Alaska SeaLife Center.

Education/Training Requirements:

Minimum of one-year experience in a similar position. Experience working directly with the public preferred.

Essential Duties:

  1. Carries out proper procedures for cleaning and care of the interior and exterior of the Center.

  2. Maintains a wide range of surfaces to an exceptionally high degree of cleanliness by properly using various cleaning agents/materials, machines, etc. The high value and unique nature of the materials to be cleaned require extreme caution and care during the cleaning process to avoid costly damage.

  3. Is familiar with the MSDS system and OSHA’s hazard communication standards.

  4. Assists with maintaining and cleaning the Center's grounds, sidewalks, parking lots, driveways, and handrail systems.

  5. Receives and follows verbal and written directives concerning proper procedures for cleaning and care of the interior and exterior of the Center.

  6. Demonstrates good working knowledge of proper safety procedures.

  7. Operates various hand and power equipment types such as vacuums, washers, and various cleaning equipment.

  8. Sets up tables, chairs, and other requested equipment for various events.

  9. Works a rotating shift schedule. May be required to work overtime.

  10. Maintains a valid driver’s license.

  11. Fosters good relations with visitors, volunteers, community leaders, contractors, and fellow staff members by promoting positive attitudes, goodwill, cooperation, and high service standards.

  12. Complies with all Alaska SeaLife Center policies, procedures, and programs.

  13. Basic Microsoft Word and Excel skills and familiarity with email.

  14. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Custodian 2

Summary:

This position is responsible for the cleanliness and appearance of the building and grounds, including overseeing all custodial personnel and custodial training at the Alaska SeaLife Center.

Education/Training Requirements:

Have a high school diploma or GED and three years experience as a custodian. One year of supervisory experience is preferred. Experience working directly with the public preferred.

Essential Duties:

  1. Plans, participates in, and oversees all custodial work, maintaining high safety, cleanliness, and efficiency standards.

  2. Provide training for members of the custodial staff

  3. Set performance standards for staff. Recommends to the Safety and Security Manager on personnel issues.

  4. Maintains a continual check on supply inventory and provides re-order requests.

  5. Recommends a selection of suitable supplies, tools, and equipment.

  6. Carries out proper procedures for cleaning and care of the interior and exterior of the Center.

  7.   17. Complies with all Alaska SeaLife Center policies, procedures, and programs.

  18. Performs other related duties as assigned.
