Mount Holyoke College Environmental Studies Lab Manager in South Hadley, Massachusetts

Environmental Studies Lab Manager Position Type: Staff Part-time Hours per week: 20 Work Schedule: 10:00 am - 5:00 pm Department Summary & Job Purpose: This part-time staff position is for an environmental scientist to gather and manage scientific and technical data for analysis and use by students in environmental studies lab science classes. A second substantial activity for this position is to support MHC\'s environmental studies faculty in teaching upper-level environmental science lab sections that serve majors and other interested students. Core Job Duties and Responsibilities: - Manage the Department of Environmental Studies labs & lab courses - Gather data for use in labs - Maintain lab and field equipment. - Order supplies. - Assist students, faculty, and staff in finding resources and operating equipment. - Teach lab sections of up to 18 students. - Drive a 12-passenger van on field trips - Assist faculty with the preparation of laboratory materials. - Train and supervise student workers. - Participate in departmental governance, curriculum development, and on-campus events. Qualifications: M.S. Degree in Environmental Science or related field Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. Physical Demands: - Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently to move objects. - Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling and walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. - Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. - Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees. - Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine. - Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time. - Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another. Working Conditions: - The employee is exposed to adverse environmental conditions when working outside. - Employee works in laboratory environments.
