Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES ADULT EDUCATION - LITERACY STUDENT SERVICES ADVISOR (Part-Time) in Spencerport, New York
The Student Services Advisor provides administrative, academic, and social support to adult learners in an assigned program. Student guidance is provided from initial inquiry through enrollment, with ongoing support provided to increase engagement, retention, and improve student outcomes. Programs take place in the evenings, Monday – Thursday.
TYPICAL DUTIES
Conduct intake orientations and assessments for incoming students, including speaking assessments for English language learners
Facilitate benchmark assessments for enrolled students
Ensure program-specific testing is completed, recorded accurately, and communicated to stakeholders in a timely manner
Support enrolled students to improve student experience and retention through referrals to community services when barriers prevent students from meeting their educational or employment goals
Assist in the documentation associated with High School Equivalency transcripts, including the scheduling of GED testing for individual students
Ensure accurate collection of all student information and maintenance of new student records
Maintain accurate data on students to facilitate effective communication and remain in compliance with various regulatory agencies
Conduct periodic reviews of student confidential files and work to correct any missing or incorrect information
Provide education verification letters for students, following internal procedures and privacy guidelines
Conduct regular audits of assessment and other required documentation to ensure compliance of NYSED standards and regulations
Support instructors and program staff as needed to maintain accurate student data and files
Participate in at least 14 hours of professional development annually through the Regional Adult Education Network, plus additional staff development days
Support all programs by providing occasional substitute instructional support
Maintains all safety standards as mandated by the BOCES 2 organization
Other duties as determined by the Director of BOCES 2 CWD
Report directly to the Director of BOCES 2 CWD
Flexible schedule; programs take place in the evenings, Monday – Thursday 5:30- 8:30pm
Primary location at CWD WEMOCO Campus, 3589 Big Ridge Road, Spencerport NY 14559
Requires periodic travel to multiple locations within Monroe County
Job Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree in education, human services, counseling, psychology, or a closely related field OR commensurate experience in a related field
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Organized and skilled in data-tracking and record-keeping
Proficient with professional soft skills, ability to communicate clearly with diverse populations, and work independently and as a team member
Experience working with English language learners
Willingness to acquire Adult Education Certification (details below), if not already certified in Adult or K-12 education
Preferred
2-4 years related work experience, including experience working with individuals with barriers to employment
Awareness of Rochester area community programs and social services
Work experience in adult education preferred, but not required.
