The Cell Engineering & Analytical Sciences group within biologics development is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Proteomics Scientist to join our research and development team. You will play a crucial role in understanding cellular pathways and networks for optimizing recombinant protein production in engineered cell lines, using data-driven systems biology approaches. We are a pioneering mass spectrometry laboratory, equipped with over a dozen instruments, robotic workbenches for sample automation and powerful bioinformatic software and cloud computing resources for data interpretation. We work in an exciting, interdisciplinary environment and collaborate with multi-functional teams, including cell line development and cell culture process development, to provide expert guidance on proteomics-related aspects of cellular expression. Your expertise in protein analysis techniques will help drive the advancement of our biopharmaceutical pipeline.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement proteomics strategies to support CHO cell engineering of complex biotherapeutic modalities. With the aim of optimizing protein expression levels, protein quality, and glycosylation patterns.

  • Apply sophisticated liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) for protein identification, quantification, and post-translational modification analysis.

  • Use biostatistics and bioinformatics algorithms to integrate multiple levels of biological information together with proteomics data, for new hypothesis generation,

  • Troubleshoot technical issues and propose innovative solutions to enhance analytical capabilities.

  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in proteomics and cell engineering, develop new methods and publish in peer reviewed journals.

  • Prepare and present scientific findings and recommendations to internal stakeholders, project teams, and senior management.

Qualifications

Education:

  • A Ph.D. in life sciences or a related field with 0-3 years of experience, MS with 3 years, or a Bachelors degree with 6 years is required

Experience and Skills:

Required:

  • Strong background and hands-on experience in proteomics techniques, including sample preparation techniques, mass spectrometry-based analysis, and data analysis is required

  • Proficiency in mass spectrometers method development (especially expertise in timsTOF & Orbitrap Eclipse instrumentation) and associated software for data acquisition and analysis (e.g. MaxQuant, MSFragger, DIA-NN, R programming, Cytoscape) is required

  • Solid understanding of cell biology and recombinant protein expression is required

  • Familiarity with cell culture techniques and genetic engineering tools for cell line development is required

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment is required

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail is required

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to effectively present scientific findings and recommendations is required

Preferred:

  • Experience in high-throughput proteomics workflows and automation is preferred

  • Knowledge of statistical analysis tools for data interpretation including multi-omics data sets. Applying systems biology approaches to generating hypothesis from -omics data is preferred

  • Prior experience in the biopharmaceutical industry or related fields is preferred

  • Experience in characterizing protein post-translational modifications i.e., ubiquitination, phosphorylation, and acetylation, and protein-protein interaction is preferred
