Baystate Health Laboratory Assistant in Springfield, Massachusetts
Laboratory Assistant I Transfusion Medicine Service
Shift: Nights
Schedule: 10:30pm – 7am
Receives and processes blood specimens for the Transfusion Medicine Service. Enters physician
orders for blood bank testing and products for transfusion. Selects appropriate products to fill
patient orders. Performs modification of blood products including irradiation, thawing,
aliquoting and dividing. Issues blood products to hospital staff performing final verification
steps prior to product release from the Transfusion Medicine Service.
The successful applicant must apply BH Organizational Core Competencies to maintain a
positive work environment. Must observe and promote all health and safety requirements. Must
have good interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with the public in a friendly and
professional manner. Other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma or equivalent. Some college courses preferred. Education should include
science courses with laboratory component. Has operated basic laboratory equipment and is
familiar with basic laboratory safety rules. Basic computer skills including Microsoft Windows
operating system. Capable of working independently and ability to follow technical procedures.
Is organized and can multi-task.
