This is a part-time position, 24

hours per week. Candidates must be available to work budgeted hours during open hours of the library: Current hours are Monday through Thursday 8:30 am - 9:00 pm, Friday 8:30 am - 8:00 pm, Saturday 8:30 am - 7:00 pm, and Sunday 10:00 am - 6:00 pm. Current needs are primarily evenings and weekends. As a condition of employment, work schedules may change as necessary to best provide user services and to meet the Librarys responsibility to the citizens of Greene County.

The Assistant position requires a High School diploma or equivalent; the Associate requires a BS/BA degree in a related field. To be considered for this position

Position Summary

A Youth Services Assistant / Associate

helps children, youth and their caregivers find and use library materials and

promote activities that build and strengthen literacy skills

. Under the supervision of the Youth Services Department Manager they also plan, implement, and support department programming, outreach and develop and produce displays and activities that promote collections, services, and the mission of the library.

Essential Functions

Ability to relate to youth from infants to age 18 and their families, and create age-appropriate programming

Develops and implement children's, teen and family programs and activities, such as story times for babies, toddlers and preschoolers, or school age youth, family events

Works occasionally with teen advisory groups and teen volunteers

Develops library services based on sound models of youth participation, allowing for social interaction, growth and learning

Assists patrons with readers advisory, information, and location of library materials

Assists and instructs patrons in the use of Library technology and reference materials

Assists and instructs patrons in the operation of patron access computer (PAC), copy machines, printers, microfilm readers, and reference materials

Performs computer searches, keyboard work

Provides regular and telephone reference and information services to the general public
