What You'll Be Doing

Job Scope: Oversee and manage the integration, maintenance, and optimization of operational systems within the laboratory setting. This includes the implementation of various technologies such as data acquisition systems, process control systems, and instrumentation. The primary goal is to ensure that these technologies effectively support and enhance the operational processes within the laboratory, leading to improved efficiency, data accuracy, and compliance with industry standards. Responsible for troubleshooting technical issues, providing training to lab personnel on the use of systems, and collaborating with local, regional, and global IT teams to ensure seamless integration with IT infrastructure. Ultimately, this role aims to maximize the reliability and performance of operating systems to support the laboratory's objectives. This role is based in St. Gabriel and supports both St. Gabriel and Omaha sites. Minimal travel required.

Primary responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Laboratory Automation System (LAS) Management

  • Administering the LAS software including configuration, user management, and ensuring the LAS operates optimally to support laboratory operations and data management.

  • Managing and optimizing the use of LAS, including CDS and sample handling systems, to streamline workflows. Leverage software capabilities to enhance method performance. Troubleshoot laboratory instruments communication and interface to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results.

  • Collaborate with IT or external vendors to troubleshoot LAS-related issues, perform software updates, and ensure data integrity and accessibility within the LAS environment.

  • LIMS Administration and Optimization

  • Administering the LIMS software including configuration, user management, and ensuring the LIMS system operates optimally to support laboratory operations and data management.

  • Collaborating with IT or external vendors to troubleshoot LIMS-related issues, perform software updates, and ensure data integrity and accessibility within the LIMS environment.

  • Configuring LIMS workflows, templates, and reports to facilitate efficient sample tracking, data entry, and retrieval to meet the specific requirements of manufactured chemical testing and regulatory compliance.

  • Providing user support and training on the LIMS system functionalities, ensuring the effective use of LIMS for sample management, test scheduling, and result reporting.

  • Conducting regular reviews of LIMS performance, identifying opportunities for process enhancements, and leading the implementation of LIMS system upgrades and new functionalities in coordination with stakeholders.

  • Data Management and Analysis - Ensuring accurate and timely data acquisition, processing, and analysis using CDS software, and LIMS to maintain data integrity and compliance with regulatory standards.

  • System Integration and Validation - Collaborating with IT and quality assurance teams to integrate new instruments, software updates, and validate system changes to meet regulatory and data integrity requirements.

  • Training and Documentation - Providing training to lab personnel on the proper use of automation systems, software applications, and ensuring accurate documentation of processes and procedures.

  • Quality Compliance and Audit Support - Ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements, quality standards, and supporting internal and external audits related to laboratory automation and data management processes.

  • Continuous Improvement and Innovation - Identifying opportunities for process improvements, automation updates, and implementing innovative solutions to enhance laboratory efficiency and data quality.

  • Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams - Collaborating with R&D, Manufacturing, Quality Control, and IT teams to support seamless integration of automated systems and data flow across the organization.

  • Troubleshooting and technical support - Providing technical support for instrument and software issues, including troubleshooting chromatography data acquisition, processing, and reporting.

  • Adherence to Safety and Quality Standards - Ensuring compliance with safety protocols and quality standards in all lab automation activities, including the proper handling of chemicals, equipment, and waste management.

Ideal Background

Education: Associate Degree with a computer science concentration. Advanced Technical coursework or College degree is preferred.

Experience: This position requires 1+ years of relevant information technology experience that is directly related to lab automation specific duties and responsibilities.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of a wide range of computer systems software, applications, hardware, networking, and communications. Proficiency in Chromeleon and Sample Manager preferred.

  • Ability to perform routine preventive maintenance on systems software, applications, hardware, networking, and communications.

  • Able to provide direction to laboratory personnel to resolve technological issues.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with peers and supervisors.

  • Able to determine computer problems and to coordinate hardware, software, and/or network solutions.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
