Job Description

Essential Functions

  • Receive, catalog, and organize animal anatomical specimens for teaching and research.

  • Maintain an inventory of specimens, ensuring their proper storage and preservation.

  • Ensure specimens are prepared and available for laboratory sessions per the curriculum.

  • Coordinate with suppliers to procure and replenish specimens , including traveling to local abattoirs and other relevant facilities to obtain samples.

  • Assist in setting up and preparing laboratory materials, including anatomical models ( prosections ) , dissection tools, and teaching aids.

  • Collaborate with faculty to dev elop and implement practical exercises that align with the

    curriculum.

  • Ensure that the laboratory is adequately equipped and ready for each session.

  • Troubleshoot and maintain laboratory equipment as needed.

  • Follow and enforce health and safety protocols in the laboratory.

  • Ensure that safety equipment and supplies are readily available and in good condition.

  • Train and guide students on safe laboratory practices.

  • Maintain accurate records of specimen usage and safety-related incidents.

  • Provide technical assistance to students during laboratory sessions.

  • Demonstrate proper dissection techniques and the use of laboratory equipment.

  • Assist students in understanding anatomical structures and relationships.

  • Collaborate with faculty members and other laboratory staff to enhance the learning experience.

  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to curriculum development.

  • Communicate effectively with faculty and students regarding laboratory activities and schedules.

    Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • A nimal cadaver dissection experience is strongly desire d .

  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. or 23 kgs. and work with formaldehyde - fixed specimens.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills .

  • A ttention to detail and commitment to creating and maintaining a safe learning environment to promote the education of DVM and pre-veterinary students.

  • Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, and public holidays.

  • Valid driver ' s license and willingness to drive pickup truck

    Qualifications

  • Undergraduate Degree in Biology, Agriculture, medical technology or a related field

  • orLicensed Veterinary Nurse/Technician certification

  • orRegistered Veterinarian Nurse
