The Center for Entrepreneurial Studies (CES) at the GSB seeks an Associate Director (AD) to lead theStanford Search Fund Project. The Search Fund AD will work with faculty to maintain Stanford’s thought leadership in this small, unique part of the investing and entrepreneurial ecosystem. The Search Fund AD will work closely with faculty to design and publish a biennial report on the state of the Search Fund industry, outlining returns to investors and entrepreneurs, alike. The AD will also partner with faculty and alumni to curate, plan, and host a biennial conference for search fund CEOs and investors. This position will curate information for Stanford GSB’s courses on the search fund model, advise students, and conduct additional research on this industry.

In this staff role, you will have the opportunity to partner with GSB faculty, develop deep expertise in the search industry, interact with ambitious students and alumni acquiring companies through the search process, and be part of an engaged team supporting entrepreneurial education at the GSB.

This is a 80% FTE position. You will work in a hybrid role with an average of 2 days a week on-site at the Stanford campus in Palo Alto, CA.

Your primary responsibilities* include:

  • Leading the GSB’s Search Fund Project strategy, and developing and managing the project’s budget.

  • Leading the biennialStanford Search Fund Study, in partnership with faculty. Identifying new areas to explore in collaboration with several stakeholders, designing and developing the survey, working with industry leaders to ensure strong response rates, leading the analysis of survey results, and writing insightful report(s) outlining results.

  • Developing deep knowledge of the search fund model and the research Stanford has conducted on this industry to date.

  • Building relationships with key industry stakeholders including leading investors, CEOs and searchers.

  • Leading the design, planning, and implementation of the biennial Search Fund Conference, including curating content (in collaboration with a group of engaged alumni), managing the attendees and sponsors, planning and implementing the vision for the event in partnership with the GSB’s events team, and ensuring the conference delivers the very high quality experience its history has led attendees to expect.

  • Designing and developing other research projects or white papers to report on current issues in the Search Fund industry.

  • Advising students interested in the search fund model, guiding them to resources and courses where they can deepen their learning.

  • Maintaining current student resources (alumni list, investor list, etc.) and working with faculty and students to identify and create other proprietary resources to support students.

  • Potentially assisting with the creation, coordination, and grading of search fund courses.

To be successful in this position, you will bring:

  • Bachelor's degree and three years relevant experience or a combination of relevant education and experience.

  • Demonstrated experience in management of projects, including project planning, scheduling, tracking, and budgeting.

  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to draw accurate and relevant conclusions from analyses.

  • Highly effective organization skills and ability to own project timelines, work with a variety of stakeholders,and manage multiple projects at once.

  • Extremely strong writing skills.

  • Strong communication skills to interact with students, faculty, and senior industry leaders.

  • Strong analytical skills to review and assess complex financial information.

  • Comfort with technology and data management.

In addition, preferred requirements include:

  • Advanced degree; MBA is preferred.

  • Strong experience doing analysis with tools such as R or Python that enable more rapid results and the ability to pre-code for results before survey results are received.

  • Very strong preference for someone who has knowledge and understanding of the search fund industry or private equity, and specifically how returns are calculated and assessed in these industries. Alternatively, strong candidates may bring excellent skills in finance, even if they do not have experience in investing industries

  • Experience working with highly sensitive and secure data.

The expected full-time pay range for this position is $95,000 to $139,000 per year. The actual pay will be pro-rated based on the 80% FTE.
