The Department of Comparative Medicine at Stanford University is seeking a Procurement Associate role administers and advises on the procure-to-pay process and requests for goods and services for assigned client groups and, or portfolios. Comparative Medicine is a distinct discipline of medicine that uses animal models of human and animal disease in translational and biomedical research. Our mission is to advance human and animal health through outstanding research, veterinary care, and training. This this role is essential for efficiently managing property, assets, and supporting operations and procurement in the Veterinary Service Center. As the Department Property Administrator, this position registers capital assets into the Sunflower system, ensures inventory tracking, and conducts biennial audits. The role will oversee receiving dock operations, including loading, and unloading freight and animals, maintaining, and repairing VSC vehicles and dock equipment, managing the dock staging area, maintaining contact lists for various services, and assisting with staff uniform management. Furthermore, the position plays a leadership role in day-to-day purchasing activities, inventory management, and related procurement processes. The position will lead daily animal receiving, distribution, and problem resolution. With a focus on operational efficiency, this role supports effective receiving operations and procurement practices to fulfill the VSC's mission.

Duties include:

  • Perform higher value transactions and services such as buying scientific or other specialized equipment and supplies.

  • Evaluate price, quality, availability, reliability, and technical support when choosing equipment and supplies.

  • Evaluate vendor quotes and services to determine the most desirable suppliers.

  • Perform market research to determine the most cost effective sources for materials and equipment.

  • Advise and assist departments in the selection of supplies and equipment.

  • Document price analysis before making award for equipment and services.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Procurement Experience Preferred,

  • Knowledge Procure-to-Pay or Supply Chain Processes,

  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Bachelor’s degree and three years of experience performing duties similar to those listed above or a combination of education and relevant experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

  • Extensive experience with an on-line purchase requisition and purchase order system.

  • Strong knowledge of market conditions, trade practices, sources, and lead times.

  • Experience placing routine but higher value purchase orders relative to best value and reasonableness of price costing.

  • Strong analytical skills.

  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment to identify, clarify and resolve routine but higher value problems (e.g. resolve discrepancies on RFPs and Purchase orders as they arise).

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.

  • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Must have the ability to take initiative to complete duties proactively, and work under varying deadlines.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Frequently perform desk based computer tasks, use a telephone, sit and use light/fine grasping.

  • Occasionally stand, walk and write by hand, lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing 10 pounds or less.

  • Rarely kneel, crawl, climb, twist, bend, stoop, squat, reach or work above shoulders, grasp forcefully and sort, file paperwork or parts.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • May require availability outside of standard working hours.

The expected pay range for this position is $82,688 to $99,239 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
