Department Introduction:

The Building Engineering Trades are an integral part of maintaining and improving the core systems of the architectural structures on campus. These Electric, HVAC and Plumbing shops provide a range of services to academic, research, library and special University facilities which include the following:

  • 24 Hour Emergency Response

  • Routine Maintenance

  • New System Design & Installation

  • Repairs & Alterations to Existing Systems

Job Purpose:

Within the Engineering Trades group and working under direct supervision, the employee performs a range of cleaning, laboring and light maintenance tasks. The supervisor/planner team schedules the work and provides detailed instructions; work is reviewed by the supervisor/lead to see whether quality and scheduling requirements have been met.

  • Assist with the set up and cleanup of work areas related to electrical, plumbing or HVAC work orders as needed

  • Attend in-service training for the purpose of receiving information on new and/or improved procedures.

  • Operate a motor vehicle in the performance of assigned tasks (must have valid Class C CA Drivers License)

  • Operating equipment used in building maintenance trades.

  • Perform a variety of laboring and related duties, such as hauling and setting up equipment and appliances

  • Adhere to safety rules.

  • *Other duties may also be assigned

Education & Experience:

• No required education minimum.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to work in an environment where there is high exposure to dust and/or other allergens.

• Ability to withstand extensive walking, pushing, pulling, stooping, and squatting.

• Knowledge of cleaning and waxing methods, materials and equipment used in industrial cleaning is desirable, but may be learned on the job.

• Demonstrated strong communication skills (both verbal and written).

• Ability to lift heavy items; minimum for most positions is 25 pounds.

• Ability to climb and work from step ladders; range for most positions is 6 to 14 feet.

• Knowledge of related safety procedures.

Certifications and Licenses:

• Valid California Non-commercial Class C Driver's license.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to obtain and maintain a California Non-commercial Class C Driver’s License.

Working Conditions:

• Required to wear appropriate uniform.

• Required to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Work Standards:

• When conducting university business, must comply with the California Vehicle Code and Stanford University driving requirements.

• Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrates the ability to work well with Stanford colleagues and clients and with external organizations.

• Promote Culture of Safety: Demonstrates commitment to personal responsibility and value for safety; communicates safety concerns; uses and promotes safe behaviors based on training and lessons learned.

• Subject to and expected to comply with all applicable University policies and procedures, including but not limited to the personnel policies and other policies found in the University’s Administrative Guide,http://adminguide.stanford.edu/and the appropriate collective bargaining agreement.

The expected pay range for this position is $29.32 to $35.41 per hour. Placement in the pay range is subject to the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
