Your Opportunity

We are actively seeking a Transportation Planning Co-op Student based in our Transportation Infrastructure Group in Hamilton. This group provides consulting services for Land Development, Community Planning, Class Environmental Assessment, Preliminary Design, and Detail Design projects for public and private sector clients, including several Ontario Southwest/GTA municipalities.

Your Key Responsibilities

As a Transportation Planning Co-op Student, you will support both public sector infrastructure projects and private sector land development projects with comprehensive transportation planning, traffic operations, traffic modelling, safety, and functional design expertise. This role will afford the individual the opportunity to work closely and be mentored by Stantec’s senior transportation planning staff.

You will be responsible for assisting senior transportation planning staff in the following areas:

  • Contribute to transportation studies including multi-modal studies, transportation master plans, environmental assessments, traffic impact studies, travel demand management, active transportation, and parking studies for various company offices.

  • Assist with report preparation related to transportation planning, traffic engineering and environmental assessments.

  • Use of software packages including Synchro, SimTraffic, Arcady, and MS Office for analysis, evaluation, and report preparation.

  • Undertake field investigations as needed.

  • Use AutoCAD to provide drafting support for drawings such as pavement markings and signage plans with reference to the Ontario Traffic Manuals.

  • Use AutoTurn to complete vehicle swept path analysis of proposed site plan designs.

  • Assist technical staff with additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering/Technology (with a transportation focus) university degree or college diploma program.

  • A valid Ontario Driver’s License – Class G and access to a personal vehicle for business purposes.

Education and Experience

  • Currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering/Technology (with a transportation focus) university degree or college diploma program.

  • Previous co-op/Internship experience, preferably in the transportation industry
