Description

We are seeking a full-time Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) in our Consultation-Liaison Hospital Psychiatry Service.

The NP/PA will conduct hospital psychiatric evaluations, psychopharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, and level-of-care recommendations for individuals admitted to our inpatient medical units with psychiatric and substance use comorbidity.

This position will involve working with families, obtaining collateral history for accurate assessments, and collaborating with other medical staff, nurses, and social workers in clinical management and discharge planning. The NP/PA will also provide education to staff and trainees.

Common conditions addressed may include but are not limited to delirium, withdrawal from alcohol or benzodiazepines and opioids, behavioral symptoms associated with dementia, impairments in medical decisions making capacity, depression and anxiety, and elevated suicide risk.

Note: This is a FULL-TIME Consultation and Liaison Hospital Position.

Stony Brook Medicine encompasses Suffolk County, Long Island's premier 600 bed academic hospital and regional referral center for complex quaternary care and level I trauma and houses the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University. The Consultation-Liaison division includes a well-staffed teaching service for residents and students, a Fellowship in C-L Psychiatry, a multidisciplinary team, and inpatient specialty liaisons in Hospital Medicine and in Pediatrics.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must have the below credentials or have them in possession by the start date:

Nurse Practitioner: ANCC Board Certification. New York State PMHNP (Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner) License.

Physician Assistant: Master's Degree from ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant program. NYS Physician Assistant license. NCCPA certified.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of one year of full-time work experience as a licensed Psychiatric NP or PA in a hospital setting.
  • Experience working with medically ill patients.
  • Experience in providing psychiatric consultations.
