The Research Foundation for The State University of New York at Stony Brook Research Support Specialist in Stony Brook, New York

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Biology, Biochemistry, Physiology or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with animal handling and/or common lab techniques. Experience with data management (e.g., Excel, Minitab, SigmaPlot/Stat) and/or computer programming (e.g., Matlab, Python, R).

Brief Description of Duties:
The Research Support Specialist will be required to assist with set-up and performance of experiments related to the lab funding in basic science research focused on central nervous system control in rodent models of neurological disease and injury The Research Support Specialist must be capable of troubleshooting experimental problems independently and show willingness to learn new research methods.

Perform tissue processing and perform biochemical assays (e.g., western blot, ELISA, RT-PCR, protein and RNA quantification, etc.).

Perform histological tissue processing and immunohistochemical protocols and imaging.

Set-up and perform serial physiological monitoring and interventions in adult rats (e.g., plethysmography chamber, diuresis chamber, motor behavioral testing.

Assist with survival surgeries and post-operative care on adult rats (e.g., laminectomy/spinal cord contusion, craniotomy/intracerebral injection, etc.).

Assist with acute physiological recording studies on adult rodents.

Participate in lab research activities and assist with technical skills training and supervision of lab trainees.

Provide general laboratory support, including ordering supplies and maintaining accurate laboratory records.

Other duties as assigned.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
