We are looking for you to join our team as a Manager of Manufacturing Systems Engineering based in Sunnyvale, CA.

What You'll Get To Do:

The Manufacturing Systems Engineering Manager will manage the Manufacturing Systems Engineering team responsible for supporting Propulsion and Power Generation machinery product lines through all processes related to final system assembly, machinery to test stand integration, final acceptance testing, and test facility system design, operation and maintenance. The Manufacturing Systems Engineering Manager will form a team of systems manufacturing engineers that will be technically responsible for the development, optimization, and integration of all manufacturing systems throughout the entirety of the product lifecycle (i.e. design, development, procurement, fabrication, machining, assembly, test, and shipment) with the intent to become the subject matter expert specific to a product.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Engage with the MLSS business units during pre-proposal and proposal program phases to offer insight into higher yielding, novel, and evolving manufacturing processes.

  • Develop a Manufacturing Plan for each phase of the program

  • Perform a Manufacturing Readiness Assessment (MRA)

  • Lead design for automation efforts

  • Cost Modeling and Design to Cost activities

  • Develop Manufacturing Maturity Plans (MMP) which includes but is not limited to executing Affordability, Manufacturing Planning, Capital Planning and Strategic Sourcing Efforts.

  • Lead the team to improve manufacturing processes, increase efficiency, reduce product cost and improve yields on all products.

  • Exhibit competent knowledge of all processes on the floor and providing technical oversight of direct reports work.

  • Interface with Process Area Managers (PAM’s), Operations Program Managers (OPM’s) and Programs on a daily basis to understand technical issues and where we need to focus efforts in supporting production.

  • Administer and oversee technical program/project execution by managing scope, tasks/schedules/cost projections for all projects.

  • Collaborate with operations, quality, and Programs to ensure manufacturing systems are optimized for efficiency, scalability, and quality.

  • Support career development, employee engagement, time approval, staffing, yearly reviews and all other related activities for team members.

  • Provide guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.

  • Oversee and help coordinate process improvement activities that reduce cycle time and increase throughput.

  • Act as main process area interface when investigating, identifying and resolving discrepancies and performance issues when necessary. Understand impacts to production and coordinate providing alternate processing recommendations.

  • Support the identification of and improvement for product and process specific safety issues.

The ideal candidate will have excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Basic Qualifications for the Manager of Manufacturing Systems Engineering 2:

  • Bachelors Degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; OR a Master's degree with a minimum of 6years of relevant experience

  • Experience with manufacturing systems (including fabrication, machining, assembly, test, etc), process optimization, and automation.

  • 2+ years of technical project management experience.

  • Experience leading teams and/or projects.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.

  • US Citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications for the Manager of Manufacturing Systems Engineering 2:

  • Bachelors Degree in STEM discipline.

  • Experience with the development of machining processes for large rotational elements, gearing and stationary components.

  • 2+ years of experience managing a team of 8+ members (direct or matrixed reports).

  • Experience in facilities and capital planning, resource and capacity planning and control account management practices.

  • Experience with Military, SAE, ASTM and AGMA specifications.

  • Experience with special processing operations such as Heat Treating, Non-Destructive Testing, Shot Peening, Coating, and Plating.

Salary Range: $156,500 - $234,700

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
