Tacoma Community College Maintenance Mechanic 2 in Tacoma, Washington

Positions Overview: The Maintenance Mechanic 2 will perform skilled work in the operation, preventative maintenance, general maintenance, repair, remodeling, grounds, machinery, facilities, and equipment owned by the college. The position will perform preventative maintenance, general maintenance, operation, and repair of HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, and structural systems of buildings and utility distribution. The position will also perform preventative and general maintenance on windows, doors, screens, floors, painted surfaces, and other maintenance areas. This position also assists other departments with major event setup as needed. This position is responsible for providing the expertise necessary to maintain a satisfactory facility environment to support activities throughout the institution. This position requires that the incumbent be available daily while classes are in session to respond to requirements involving the college's electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and HVAC systems.   The incumbent must be familiar with standard personal safety requirements and equipment used in processes common to building maintenance work. The incumbent will be expected to use a wide range of hand and power tools, and operate industrial building maintenance machinery, and trucks. The responsibilities and activities described above are a portion of the duties assigned and are based on the needs and priorities established by the College. Therefore, variations to scheduled duties may occur at any time dependent upon specific circumstances and as directed by the Supervisor. This recruitment is for a full-time temporary position.

Essential Functions

 

Performs diagnostic, skilled repair and installation to campus building systems and equipment;

Performs operational checks and preventative maintenance to buildings, mechanical equipment and systems; including, but not limited to, filter changes, lubricating/greasing motors & pumps, replacing belts, etc.

Installs, modifies, maintains, repairs, and performs preventative maintenance to interior wiring and cables, connections for electric machines, switches and controls, fuse boxes, breaker panels, distribution and instrument panels, buzzer and bell circuits, heating and power circuits; including, but not limited to, re-lamping/retro-fitting light fixtures for LED bulbs, replacing electrical outlets/light switches, maintaining/replacing battery back-up/emergency lighting systems.

Performs minor plumbing repairs; including, but not limited to, repairing/replacing faucets, unclogging pipes, replacing hot water heaters, and installing new plumbing fixtures.

Performs & Assists with office moves and installation of furniture and wall hangings.

Performs repainting of spaces and parking lots.

Performs drywall repairs and replacement, including, but not limited to, ceiling tiles.

Installs, modifies, and constructs cabinets and countertops.

Drives service trucks as required; loads and unloads materials and supplies.

Provides response, assessment, and appropriate remedial action or referral for electrical, HVAC and mechanical systems-related trouble calls.

Provides response, assessment, and appropriate remedial action or referral for general radio trouble calls. 

Provides response, support, and appropriate action to off-hour emergency calls and suspended operations.

Identifies life safety and health issues and provide remedial action or referral to appropriate individual.

Participates in college functions and meetings.

Performs rooftop maintenance and cleaning, cleaning of debris, and assist the grounds crew clearing pathways, roadways and stairways of snow and ice, etc. and perform work by using ladders, crawling, bending
