Carlile Transportation Senior Accountant ($82,000 - $104,000 DOE) in Tacoma, Washington

Essential Duties

· Analyzes statistical and accounting information to assess profitability, budget performance, and financial soundness. Supports the preparation of the annual and multi-year financial and capital plans, financial forecasts, and monitors variance analysis reports

· Manages the monthly financial closing process, including maintaining the close calendar

· Prepares and posts journal entries, and analyzes financial information for general ledger accuracy

· Reviews and approves financial transactions with specific limits

· Assists in the development implementation and maintenance of internal controls and procedures

· Performs reconciliations and maintains the integrity of balance sheet accounts

· Acts as a go-to resource for issues related to general ledger software, financial closes, and ad hoc reports

· Assists the Controller in preparing for and coordinating both internal and external audits and response to audit inquiries

· Contributes to financial reporting for the parent company, including monthly financial statements and intercompany transactions

· Collaborates with operational departments to ensure accurate financial recording and meaningful financial information

· Updates existing policies and procedures, and assists in developing and implementing new ones

· Encourages a collaborative team environment by promoting open communication, sharing best practices, and facilitating peer-to-peer learning among accounting staff

· Ensures compliance with all health, safety, security, and environmental policies and procedures

· Performs additional duties as required

Qualifications

· Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field

· 5 to 7 years of general accounting experience required

· CPA preferred

· Public accounting experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

· Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel (including Lookups and Pivot Tables), Word and Outlook

· Comprehensive understanding of accounting principles and, with a strong emphasis on Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

· Demonstrated experience with general ledger tasks and maintaining month-end and year-end close processes

· Practical experience with various accounting software systems

· Strong numerical and quantitative skills

· Ability to create and manage standard database software, including report writing

· Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with a focus on effective listening

· Outstanding organizational skills, including meticulous attention to detail and high level of accuracy

Working Environment

This role is designated as hybrid, requiring in-office attendance on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Based primarily in a professional office setting equipped with standard equipment, the Senior Accountant will also engage with operations in areas such as warehouses, yards, and shops. This interaction with field personnel across varied environments enhances financial oversight and offers a dynamic and engaging workplace.
