Role Summary
This position will be responsible for designing, developing, implementing, testing, and validating control systems that enable autonomous driving (AD) of vehicles, robots, or other systems. The main focus of the position will include but not limited to (1) designing a control system, (2) integrating various sensors, (3) implementing control mechanisms for actuators, (4) simulating, testing, and tuning control parameters to improve overall AD performance, (5) improving and optimizing control algorithms. This position will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop and optimize control strategies, integrate sensors and actuators, and ensure the safe and reliable functioning of AD systems. In addition, the position will plan execute and coordinate New Mobility for/with internal and external departments, (supplier) companies and academia.
Key Responsibilities
Evaluation of technologies and product designs with compliance to scientific principles, engineering principles, company standards, customer requirements and related specifications
Support the development of innovative components and modules from the initial concept phase through the complete development process including design engineering, validation, prototyping, testing, and evaluation of the proposed production capable process and business case
Design and conduct research programs; applying theory and principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, electronics, heat transfer and materials
Contribute to team effort by providing innovative ideas for products and processes and by sharing new information with other team members
Support the ideation process while identifying gaps in the current product or manufacturing technology to guide and provide future R&D efforts
Analyze engineering results and propose product changes to determine feasibility, improvement of components and systems and functional/performance specifications
Correlate experimental data to simulation data
Maintain innovation project schedule by monitoring project progress, co-coordinate activities, calculating time requirements, sequencing project elements and resolving problems
Specify requests and coordinate all sub-contracted work (i.e. S/W development, prototyping, validation, testing) and assures timely completion
Confer with other project engineers to clarify or resolve problems and develop designs
Maintain proper filing systems to ensure all information, (electronic or hard copy), are stored according to departments requirements
Key Responsibilities (Cont.)
Provide engineering support to other departments within the company as directed by the department leader
Maintain professional and technical knowledge by reviewing professional publications and establishing personal networks
Responsible for keeping the organization abreast of developments in his/her R&D programs.
Interpret technical specifications from OEMS
Prepare project progress reports
Use related computer software and equipment to perform technical analysis tasks
Continuing education and/or training is critical as technology evolves
Ability to travel domestic and international
Collaborating with the teams to ensure that the control systems are properly integrated into the entire system design
Integrating and validating various sensors such as LiDAR, radar, cameras, and ultrasonic sensors into the vehicle
Participating in vehicle-level testing and validation to ensure the control performances are meeting performance requirements and specifications
Troubleshoot and resolve any issues related to sensor integration, actuator control, and performance
Perform other duties as required
Key Qualifications/Requirements
0-2 years of relevant work experience in automotive
Experience in vehicle testing of ADAS/AD systems
Analytical skills and experience to trouble shoot the issues
Strong foundation in control theory, dynamics, and kinematics
Willing and motivated to learn new technologies and acquire additional skills
Good interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others in a team environment
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's or higher degree in Engineering including but not limited to: Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science, Aerospace, and Robotics.
Automotive OEM or Tier-1 experience preferred.
Experience in series production of ADAS system is preferred.
Additional Information
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS:
Experience in designing & testing ADAS systems including ACC, AEB, LKA, etc,
Experience in automotive development tools such as CANape, CANalyzer, and Matlab/Simulink.
Knowledge of ADAS/AD systems.
Proficient in limit handling driving (high g maneuver, race track driving, emergency driving)
Strong spoken and written English language skills.
Driver license in Michigan
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to drive test vehicles. The employee is required to hold valid driver’s license and to maintain physical and mental condition defined by the regulations for driving.
Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus
