Collins Aerospace is seeking an experienced 2nd shift Senior Inspector. You will be responsible for preparing and inspect products, samples, purchased materials and parts, etc. using non-destructive testing procedures such as fluorescent penetrant, or other complex inspection techniques requiring extensive training and/or certification. You will also perform chemical analyses for control of manufacturing processes and parameters such as anodizing, conversion coating, salt spray, coolants, and others. You will observe, inspect, or verify process control procedures, results, and records (such as operator inspections, SPC, machine controls, etc.). This role prepares and maintain appropriate records. Identify and document substandard items or conditions. You will work in any manufacturing or other assigned local areas.

Onsite: This position will work onsite at our Troy, OH Landing Systems Headquarters. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

2nd Shift Monday– Friday 3:00p.m.- 11:00p.m.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Participate in training and achieve established requirements for Non-Destructive Testing Certification. Maintain certification.

  • Participate in chemical lab training, pass testing requirements, and maintain proficiency. Receive assignment of manufacturing area, inspection area or for specific items of processes. Familiarize self with product, process, specifications, quality standards and/or inspection instructions.

  • Obtain or attend to necessary inspection or analytical equipment and assure that the equipment is and remains in reliable, clean condition and calibration (as required). Process through associated Chemical Solutions etc. or otherwise prepare parts for non-destructive testing, inspect for conformity to established criteria and unusual conditions.

  • Prepare simple chemical reagents. Obtain samples of chemical solutions according to specifications and control schedules. Perform chemical analyses and calculations as specified.

  • Record inspection results and dispositions on appropriate forms. Enter computer data as required. Identify items as accepted or otherwise. Move or arrange for transportation if necessary. Inform supervision of abnormal situations; need for instruction, etc.

  • Return equipment and material to storage upon completion of task. Maintain clean, orderly laboratory apparatus, testing equipment and work area.

  • Perform other inspection and Quality Assurance oriented duties, as assigned by supervisor, including the use of other inspection requirements and tools.

  • Attend and participate in quality-related training activities and department meetings as provided by management to maintain or update skills necessary for proficient job performance.

  • Clean and maintain work areas, machines, auxiliary equipment and common ground in cell/area utilizing appropriate equipment, so as to maintain a clean, safe, and orderly environment.

  • Check and maintain operating levels of fluids and required machine materials such as, but not limited to, coolant, shot, etc. Move material between workstations and cells/areas as dictated by the manufacturing cell/area configuration and the nature of the part (by hand truck, hoist, robot assist, etc.).

  • Retrieve items from maintenance crib and complete forms/transactions as required.

Physical requirements:

  • Wearing of all personal protective equipment as required.

  • In addition to the items subsumed in the job duties above, it should be noted that this position. Requires substantial reaching and moving while standing; lifting to 35 pounds ; twisting; stooping; and response to sounds associated to the work environment.

EHS Requirements:

  • Adherence to all EH&S roles and responsibilities as stated in manufacturing work instructions and EHS policies and procedures is required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a high school diploma.

  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required. https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-22/chapter-I/subchapter-M/part-120/subpart-C/section-120.62

  • Capable of performing mathematical calculations requiring addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division and pass pre-employment qualification tests.

  • Oral and written comprehension and understanding of technical documents including but not limited to routings, blueprints, Engineering process specifications and written work instructions.

  • Near vision one or both eyes: or Jaeger #1, at 12 inches per NAS-410 W301-04. Re-examine once every year by medically qualified personnel selected by Goodrich. Color vision test normal yearly. able to distinguish / differentiate colors used in the NDT method per W301-04.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous aerospace experience

  • 1+ years’ experience CNC experience

  • Experience utilizing Microsoft Office- Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills.
