Lex Products Corporation Sheet Metal Worker - Paint Booth in Trumbull, Connecticut

Job Title:Paint Booth Main Department: 11 Forest Parkway- Lex East Each Sheet Metal Worker is assigned a main area of responsibility within the SMD that may include: grinding/deburring, paint booth operation or PEM (Power Entry Module) nut machine operation. The SM Worker will initially be assigned to one of these three jobs. While the SM Worker may focus on one area, each worker will be ultimately responsible for learning all the positions so that they may fill in or lend extra support when needed in the Department.Sheet Metal Workers may be offered the opportunity to learn to operate other machines in the Sheet Metal Department as well.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Paint Booth Operator Paint Booth Operators apply coatings with different types of spray equipment to protect interior and/or exterior product surfaces. The role requires that the Paint Booth Operator understand the acceptable quality of the finish and is able to mix and spray all products used. Paint Operators must have good color vision, physical strength and mechanical skills.

Daily:

  • Spray parts with paint or coating solutions using a spray gun.
  • Load sprayed parts into the drying oven.
  • Regulate the temperature and air circulation in the drying oven.
  • Arrange parts on paint racks to process, moving parts in and out of the oven to help keep continuous process flow.
  • Hang some products to air dry.
  • Check parts for flaws, bubbles, color integrity and/or imperfections.
  • Finish parts by hand, using hand tools to ensure the surfaces are filed or finished accordingly.
  • Keep all equipment running by inspecting and performing basic maintenance, including lubrication and cleaning, and scheduling repairs when needed.
  • Perform basic repairs, including replacing parts when they are worn down, or broken, within the scope of expected knowledge and expertise.
  • Perform daily organizing and housekeeping duties.
  • Ensure paint booth filters remain clean and function properly per Company maintenance schedule.
  • Timely and accurately complete documentation and electronically record work in Shop Floor Manager.
  • Work overtime as required./ Perform other duties as required.

Grinder/Deburrer Grinders/Deburrers are responsible for ensuring that each Assembler has the materials they need to build products. They are responsible for smoothing edgesand sides of manufactured metal parts both manually and with a CNC machine.Deburrers inspect parts using gauges and micrometers. They check machinery and make necessary adjustments when problems arise.

Daily:

  • Process high value metal parts prior to final inspection of the materials.
  • Follow work instructions by reading blueprints.
  • Perform tumble deburring.
  • Polish and deburr metal parts as needed and required.
  • Use oscillator to sand rough edges on metal.
  • Handle aluminum die casting, set-up tear-down, and operate die trim press machines.
  • Run both vertical and horizontal CNC machines including inspections and preparation of parts for Assembly.
  • Inspect machinery and work pieces to ensure that they remain compliant with specifications to reduce any malfunctions and associated loss of production.
  • Stop any machines upon discovery of a problem and make the required adjustments as quickly as possible to minimize downtime.
  • Operate machinery including polishing and grinding equipment, to grind metal work pieces to their prescribed specifications to ensure high-quality products.
  • Wash, treat, wipe and dry metal parts as needed in process.
  • Maintain a low level of dust in the room per Company cleaning guidelines.
  • Timely and accurately complete documentation and electronically record work in Shop Floor Manager.
  • Work overtime as required/Perform other duties as required.

PEM Nut Machine Operator PEM Nut Machine Operators insert rivets, nuts, standoff fasteners, studs, panel screw , cable tie mounts or pilot pins into a part with a punching machine, as opposed to them being screwed in. In this role, PEM Nut Machine Operators are responsible for producing the correct quantity of parts while meeting both quality standards and production schedules.

Daily:

  • Set up and operate the PEM machine based on the type of PEM style fasteners required for the parts being run using engineering prints, standard work instructions and inspection procedures.
  • Properly follow instructions as provided on routings and other job related materials to ensure correct PEM parts.
  • Verify that the appropriate PEM nuts, studs or standoffs are being completed per print. Visually inspect to ensure product hardware is secure and undamaged.
  • Load parts properly and use proper stock to make parts.
  • Upload and execute programs into the machine as required to make the parts.
  • Complete first piece quality inspection requirements and complete required paperwork.
  • Produce correct number of parts and record parts produced in Shop Floor Manager.
  • Keep all equipment running by inspecting and performing basic maintenance, including lubrication and cleaning, and scheduling repairs when needed.
  • Perform basic repairs, including replacing parts when they are worn down, or broken, within the scope of expected knowledge and expertise.
  • Perform housekeeping and clean-up of press bed and work area.
  • Timely and accurately complete documentation and electronically record work in Shop Floor Manager.
  • Work overtime as required./ Perform other duties as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Knowledge and Skills Required.

  • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent related hands on experience
  • Ability to speak, read, write and understand the English language.
  • Prior experience in machining helpful, but not required.
  • Ability to read blueprints and other manufacturing information preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail/Effective organizational skills
  • Skilled in fabricating parts/product that meets quality standards preferred.
  • Ability to produce high quality products without rework meeting production and customer schedules.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment and to work in a fast paced environment is necessary.
  • Ability to work in metric and English units of measure.
  • Competence in following and complying with all safety rules and OSHA regulations.

  • Ability to perform all duties in assigned role (Grinder/Deburrer, Paint Booth Operator or PEM nut Machine Operator) error free while meeting production and customer schedules.
  • Ability to read or learn to read blueprints and other manufacturing documents as needed for their role.
  • Ability to follow Lex cleaning procedures as they apply to their work area(s).
  • Ability to train other Sheet Metal Workers how to perform these duties.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted throughout the day.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Paint Booth: Ability to wear a specialized mask for protection against paint fumes.
  • Grinder/Deburrer: Ability to wear specialized I95 mask for protection against air particulates.
