The Housing Inspector performs Housing Quality Standards (HQS) and other inspections of residential dwelling units receiving assistance under several different housing assistance programs. As the primary position at HOM responsible for work in the field, the Housing Inspector has subsequent responsibilities related to landlord engagement and relationship management. The Housing Inspector is a non-exempt position.

Primary Job Responsibilities

Housing Quality Standards Inspections

  • Perform initial, annual and special inspections of dwelling units in accordance with HUDs Housing Quality Standards (HQS).
  • Explain inspection results and consequences of failed inspections, including abatement of HAP payments and program termination, to landlords and tenants.
  • Coordinate the scheduling of inspection and re-inspection appointments with Housing Specialists, Real Estate Agents, and Contracted Agencies.
  • Perform move-out inspections of dwelling units vacated by supportive housing program
  • Explain damage claim and vacancy loss procedures to landlords in the supportive housing
  • Perform periodic home visits for new program participants in the supportive housing
  • Operate and maintain company vehicles, including ongoing care and maintenance of the
  • Maintain a clean driving record free of traffic violations or
  • Participate in housing stability meetings as needed.
  • Provide advocacy and problem resolution with clients, landlords, and clinical case management
