Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects.Transportation Engineer Specialist I performs work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Transportation Engineer Specialist II establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.Transportation Engineer Specialist III may serve as lead worker. Essential Duties:Transportation Engineer Specialist I:Learns specialized design and project development techniques.Performs advanced and specialized design work.Performs advanced and specialized drafting and calculations in support of design activities; develops graphic presentations that include distinctive design features.Prepares environmental documents.Prepares quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies and right-of-way maps.Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans.Schedules, coordinates and prepares documents for public hearings.Uses additional automated design tools or specialized design procedures in areas including bridge/culvert detailing, traffic management, geometric design, signal lighting design, retaining walls and building design.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Transportation Engineer Specialist II include all of the above and:Reviews entire sets of plans for format, drafting and calculation errors and correlation of plans and specifications.Writes general notes, specifications and provisions.Transportation Engineer Specialist III all the above and:Develops and implements statewide detailing practices and conventions for use on project plans.Receives project assignments, determines work requirements to complete project plans and coordinates scheduling to accommodate project plans and coordinates scheduling to accommodate projects already underway.
