Delta College General Laborer - 2nd shift Part Time w/ Tuition Reimbursement in University Center, Michigan

Position Summary

A General Laborer is responsible for performing cleaning and building sanitation across all college-maintained facilities, including off-campus centers. The employee will operate necessary equipment and properly use college-approved cleaning products to maintain areas such as classrooms, locker rooms, restrooms, elevators, offices, laboratories, lobbies, corridors, cafeteria areas, and utility spaces.

The General Laborer is responsible for cleaning building materials such as walls, ceilings, floors, windows, vents, doorways, and furniture. Duties include dusting, washing, mopping, buffing, sweeping, vacuuming, and trash removal. The employee will also maintain custodial equipment, stock necessary products, assist in setting up events, report broken articles, and provide a safe working environment while completing daily responsibilities.

The General Laborer may be assigned additional duties by supervisors as required.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Perform cleaning and sanitation of classrooms, restrooms, lobbies, hallways, and office spaces.
  • Operate and maintain custodial equipment such as vacuum cleaners, buffers, burnishers, and scrubbers.
  • Use proper cleaning chemicals and supplies in compliance with safety regulations.
  • Handle trash collection and disposal.
  • Stock and maintain supply rooms with necessary products.
  • Assist in setting up and taking down furniture and equipment for special events.
  • Report maintenance or safety issues to supervisors.
  • Work both independently and as part of a team.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 40 lbs.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively.
  • Must be able to pass a physical examination.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screening test.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed.
Additional Experiences Considered
  • Previous custodial or maintenance experience.
  • Knowledge of floor care, sanitation, and cleaning procedures.
