Job Summary

Assisting in the creation and execution of several major University-wide research initiatives for which multiple disciplines join forces to pursue bold, integrative goals having potentially transformative impacts on society. Core disciplines to be involved include climate; weather; sustainability; environment; social, behavioral and economic sciences; agriculture; health and energy.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Creating and analyzing an inventory of key University assets and strengths across relevant colleges, institutes, extension, and programs to identify core capabilities, gaps, opportunities and factors which differentiate the University from its peers and thus provide an opportunity for substantial leadership.
  • Working with deans, directors, and heads to identify new areas for interdisciplinary collaboration and novel education and training programs and paradigms and the human and other assets needed to pursue them.
  • Suggesting strategies for engaging external stakeholders and partners, particularly with regard to underserved and underrepresented communities
  • Creating a strategic vision to advance associated economic development through technology commercialization, business, innovation, and policy.

Required Qualifications

  • Master\'s degree in the sciences, social sciences, or related fields.
  • Minimum of five years\' experience working in a research, technology development, or research program development setting in academia, industry, a non-profit organization or government.

  • Demonstrated effective communication skills, organizational and interpersonal skills and awareness of, and sensitivity to, cultural and linguistic differences;
  • Understanding of and commitment to diversity and inclusion;
  • Ability to easily and quickly pivot from one task to another;
  • Ability to work collaboratively across disciplinary and organizational lines.
  • General knowledge of research and education programs on the Urbana campus in these disciplines: climate, weather, sustainability, environment, social, behavioral and economic sciences, agriculture, health and energy.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the deadline date. The target salary for this position is \$60,000-75,000. We strive to provide a competitive salary, considering factors such as available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget constraints. The final salary offer will be determined through a thorough assessment of these elements. Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position.
