Summary:

To support day-to-day compliance advisory for Global Corporate and Investment Banking (GCIB) businesses across the APAC region, including provision of regulatory and transactional advice, facilitation of stakeholder management for both the business and compliance functions, and ensuring compliance matters are adequately addressed and escalated when necessary. To work in partnership with compliance colleagues in ACO and APAC branches to provide compliance support for GCIB Business regionally.

Job Responsibilities:

Regional GCIB Business Compliance Advisory

  • To assist the Regional Head of GCIB Compliance Advisory in delivering ACO’s strategy and implementation of a robust and structured Compliance Programme in APAC.

  • To be a trusted advisor to GCIB business management/leadership team on Core Compliance (i.e., Non-Financial Crime) issues and risks to strengthen first line risk ownership. Provide sound advice/review to business such as new business initiatives, products, and transactions based on local regulatory requirements as well as MUFG’s compliance policies and procedures to support decision making.

  • To work collaboratively with the compliance advisers in the various regional teams covering Japanese Corporate Banking, Transaction Banking and Global Markets, as well as respective subject matter experts within ACO on compliance matters that involve multiple business units.

  • To support the Compliance Officers across APAC branches in managing and mitigating compliance risks, and strengthening the local compliance framework via effective implementation of compliance programs that are in line with regional and global standards for the GCIB business.

  • To engage business and regional/branch management on key compliance risks identified and actions required. Monitor action plans to ensure compliance gaps are closed in a timely and appropriate manner to mitigate compliance risk.

  • To maintain good working knowledge of industry trends, products, relevant laws and regulations, and support in the development of appropriate and practical solutions and processes that are in line with industry best practice.

  • To work with compliance colleagues in ACO and Financial Crime Office of Asia (FCOA), and in the region to share knowledge and to provide guidance and advice to business on complex Compliance issues.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum Degree qualified

  • At least 4 years of working experience at a financial institution, regulator, or audit firm.

  • Prior experience in business compliance advisory or regulatory compliance in a global corporate banking environment.

  • Sufficient knowledge of corporate and investment banking business, the relevant products and services including project finance, strategic and acquisition finance, structured trade finance, loans syndications, and corporate finance advisory in relation to M&A.

  • Good knowledge of APAC regulatory requirements and their application to the business would be preferred.

  • Excellent analytical skills and demonstrable ability to make sound judgment based on imperfect information.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, including collaborating with compliance colleagues in ACO to support the business and deliver the function.

  • Strong communications skills, written and verbal, and ability to manage wide range of stakeholders.
