Glimpse of the Job

The Associate Director for Mentoring and Personal Development is responsible for the creation, implementation, and assessment of mentoring and personal development programs within the Hollingsworth Center for Applied Leadership Studies, benefitting up to 2500 cadets annually. Selects and trains mentors, coaches, and other development experts to assist cadets in career readiness, leadership development, and character development. Additional duties may include classroom instruction and quality assurance of programmatic elements. Serves as part of departmental leadership team.

Your Opportunity to Contribute

  • Coaching and Mentoring Coordination - Creates, implements, and assesses mentoring and personal development programs within the Hollingsworth Center for Applied Leadership Studies, benefiting up to 2500 cadets annually. Directs, manages, designs and coordinates coaching and mentoring programs to facilitate cadet development in ethical leadership and character development. Selects and trains mentors, coaches, and other development experts to assist cadets in career readiness, leadership development, and character development. Assists with the development and production of materials designed for the program. Develops and conduct programs including leadership training, seminars, and workshops.

  • Course Instruction - Provides instruction in research-based leadership and character concepts. Assists in the development and execution of curriculum for School of Military Sciences. Provides classroom instruction and quality assurance of programmatic elements.

  • Planning and Implementation - Participates in developing departmental planning based on unit goals. Assists the Director in planning, directing and coordinating operational or procedural matters to meet department goals and objectives. Represents the department, division or university on committees. Assists with yearly budgetary and contract processes. Prepares vouchers, purchase orders and requisition and coordinates with accounting personnel and other support staff. Researches, develops and writes grant applications and prepares presentations.

  • Student Development - Counsel students on leadership and character development activities and plans. Assists with leadership and career readiness development activities.

  • Managing Relationships With Stakeholders - Serves as part of departmental leadership team. Interacts with Office of Commandant staff and other university offices to provide support for the Hollingsworth Center for Applied Leadership Studies mission and programs. Maintains and develops communications between partners by attending meetings and conference calls.

  • Leadership Conferences - Assists in the planning and execution of annual conferences on leadership. Performs other duties as assigned.

    The Office of the Commandant (OOC) serves and supports departments within the Corps of Cadets that are critically engaged in all aspects of student development and the delivery of key services and support.   OOC departments work to create environments that help students develop, learn, and enhance their experience at Texas A&M by providing leadership opportunities, experiential education, and connections beyond the classroom. 

    Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Eight years of mentoring/directing and/or program management

  • A well-qualified candidate may have k nowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications, ability to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding and a Masters Degree
