Who We Are

The mission of Scholarships & Financial Aid is to provide students and their families with information and financial resources to attend Texas A&M University, along with support programs that promote higher education and developmental opportunities. We administer scholarships and financial aid, which include the following programs: grants, student loans, student employment, veteran educational benefits, athletic aid coordination, short-term loans, and emergency tuition and fee loans. In addition our office provides advising on the programs listed above. Our office also assist students in gaining financial literacy knowledge through our Money Education Center. Our office is responsible for processing student aid and veteran educational benefits for College Station, Galveston, all Health Science Center sites and Qatar which totaled approximately $836 million in financial aid assistance for the prior academic year.

What We Want

The Financial Aid Advisor I learns to serve as the primary liaison responsible for coordinating the TAMU Galveston, TAMU School of Law and TAMU Health Science Center scholarship posting. Learns to administer the OMEGA database of outside scholarship donors approximately $100 Million a year and learns to reconcile the OMEGA database to ensure compliance. Learns to advise and provide information on student financial aid and scholarships to prospective and current students and their families.

Qualifications:Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to meet deadlines and maintain a high level of accuracy and professionalism.

  • Knowledge of financial aid counseling, verification, rules and regulations.

  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.

  • Ability to work individually or as a team.

  • Oral and written communication skills.

  • Must be able to comprehend, give and follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Ability to organize and make decisions.

  • Ability to work well under pressure.

  • Ability to use tact, diplomacy and judgment in dealing with all customers.

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively on with others.

  • Customer Service skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of current versions of Microsoft products, including Windows and Office.

  • Knowledge of Financial Aid or Student Information Systems.

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.

  • Ability to develop and make presentations.

  • Knowledge and experience in an enrollment management.

  • Experience in financial aid, scholarships, student employment, student veteran’s services experience. Customer service experience, particularly within higher education.

  • Some experience in planning and organizing events.

  • Background in general office conditions with much time spent in contact with students

Job Responsibilities:OMEGA Processing

  • Learns to process the Omega checks and reconciliations.

  • Learns to administer the OMEGA database of outside scholarship donors approximately $100 Million a year.

  • Learns to reconcile the OMEGA database to ensure compliance.

  • Learns to coordinate requests for transfers, sundry logs, and holding accounts.

Scholarship Liaison

  • Learns to serve as primary liaison for coordinating the posting of scholarships for TAMU-Galveston, TAMU Health Science Center, and TAMU School of Law.

  • Learns to advise and counsel with questions regarding scholarship, compliance and manage disbursement validation.

  • Learns to handle the processing of scholarship checks for HSC.

  • Learns to participate in the review, revision, and interpretation of complex rules, regulations, procedures and policies.

  • Interprets federal, state and institutional policies, procedures and regulations.

Scholarship Reporting

  • Learns to coordinate all aspects of the process for various reporting to remain in compliance with rules and regulations.

  • Learns to coordinate certifications for Americorps.

  • Learns to post/revise/maintain anticipated awards on Reporting Outside Scholarships Form.

Advising & Customer Service

  • Learns to provide assistance and guidance to other financial aid staff to ensure that processing activities adhere to established policies and procedures.

  • Learns to use discretion and independent judgment to advise and counsel students, parents, and/or prospective students in solving their educational financial problems through scholarships, loans, grants, employment and financial counseling.

  • Learns to respond to questions and counseling needs for scholarship related questions and general financial aid by various means (in-person, written, phone, and email) from currently enrolled students, prospective students, and parents.

  • Learns to use independent judgment to provide support to colleges and departments as needed.

  • May be assigned as a liaison to a college or department.
