Description

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:The NOEP Coordinator will work in Niagara County to increase individuals and household access to SNAP (food stamps) benefits for income eligible individuals and households. This is important work that helps reduce hunger in our area, helping families and individuals facing hunger insecurity. This position aims to reduce these barriers and increase families and individual access to successfully receiving SNAP benefits.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducting SNAP outreach in Niagara County, prescreening potentially SNAP eligible individuals/households and assisting them with their SNAP applications;

  • Acting as a liaison with the local Department of Social Services providing help with any barriers individuals encountered in the SNAP process;

  • Engaging in community outreach to educate potentially SNAP-eligible people through community events, tabling opportunities and presentations;

  • Collaborating with local community based organizations, educating them about the importance of NOEP and SNAP;

  • Maintaining confidentiality and tracking client information and outcomes for reporting purposes and to meet annual program targets;

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with Niagara County DSS SNAP Case Managers;

  • Develop and implement comprehensive recruitment and outreach programs for SNAP eligible population;

  • Assist in promoting SNAP benefits for residents of Niagara County;

  • Conduct outreach programs designed to inform eligible recipients of the benefits of SNAP and meets with interested individuals;

  • Conducts presentations to community groups and agencies to educate public;

  • Provide assistance and appropriate referrals to support the application to SNAP benefits and other food programs and resources;

  • Provide advocacy at DSS for potential and existing SNAP recipients;

  • Visit food pantries, mobile food van, libraries, WIC, health fair, and other community locations to recruit participants;

  • Maintains prompt and accurate records per Nutrition Outreach and Education Program (NOEP) guidelines;

  • Prepares reports as needed monthly and quarterly;

  • Attends NOEP meetings and other related in-services in order to keep current on new regulations and trends;

  • Assist with any and all mission work as needed and requested with some or no prior notice including, but not limited to: serving as a truck spotter, helping with FARM Market/Community Garden/Freight Farms/on and off site food distributions, preparation of meals and serving home-delivered meals; and

  • Other duties as so assigned or needed.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Human Services or related field and experience connecting clients with needed resources and good awareness of other community agencies and services;

  • Experience in initiating and sustaining outreach programs;

  • A valid NYS driver's license and daily access to a vehicle;

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;

  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail;

  • Comfortable using technology and proficiency in the Microsoft Word, Excel;

  • Public speaking skills; and

  • Ability to work well with diverse populations.

Salary Description

$19.00-$21.00/hr.
