Institutional OverviewTexas A&M University-Central Texas (A&M-Central Texas) became a stand-alone university on May 27, 2009, one of 11 universities within the Texas A&M University System. A&M-Central Texas is an upper-level institution offering the junior- and senior-level coursework needed to successfully complete baccalaureate degrees and all coursework leading to the completion of graduate degrees, including master’s and specialist programs. The university provides a wide range of flexible course schedules, including online, hybrid, evening, and weekend classes.

The beautiful new campus of A&M-Central Texas is located on 672 acres of land in Killeen, Texas. Located in the heart of central Texas, Killeen has a city population of over 153,000, a metro population of 496,000, and a thriving economy fueled by Fort Cavazos, one of the largest military bases in the country. Killeen is approximately an hour north of Austin and is situated within the I-35 corridor, one of the fastest-growing trans-metropolitan regions in North America. The Position

The Provost & Vice President of Academic & Student Affairs reports to the President and provides administrative leadership, oversight, planning, and support for all academic units and programs within the university, as well as academic and student support services.

Responsibilities:

  • Serves as the Chief Academic Officer of the University, responsible for planning, organization, operation, and evaluation of three colleges (Arts & Sciences, Business, and Education and Human Development), the Division of Research, Distance Learning, Institutional Research and Effectiveness, and the Center for Faculty Engagement. Serves as the Chief Student Affairs Officer of the University, responsible for the planning, organization, operation, and evaluation of all components of the following: enrollment management, retention, library services, and Student Affairs. Reviews and analyzes the organizational and operational responsibilities and needs of reporting units to ensure accountability, viability, compliance with stated goals, and quality. Understands and supports the University's mission and core values, and helps to maintain a positive climate within and among the component units of Academic and Student Affairs, and across the University. Provides leadership in maintaining the academic integrity of the University, including admission requirements, academic standards, the assessment of student learning, academic honor roll, etc.

  • Works with the faculty to strengthen existing academic programs through collaborative planning and decision making; encourages and supports faculty commitment to excellence in teaching, service, and scholarship. Facilitates the advancement of academic and student support services and student success initiatives through collaborative planning and decision making with unit leadership and membership. Works closely with the leadership and membership of reporting units to determine the need for new or expanded programs; helps identify funding resources; acts as an advocate for program approval.

  • Develops annual budgets for reporting units in cooperation with unit leadership and membership; provides fiscal oversight and coordination of budget expenditures. Develops annual staffing plans for reporting units in cooperation with unit leadership and membership; provides oversight for search/hire processes and professional development for full-time faculty and professional staff within the areas of Academic and Student Affairs.

  • Serves on and/or chairs University committees; submits reports required by The Texas A&M University System, by state and federal agencies, and accrediting bodies; oversees the updating and editing of University policy, procedure, and documents related to Academic and Student Affairs (i.e. the University Catalog, Rules and Standard Administrative Procedures, etc.).

  • Represents the University at appropriate conferences and meetings, with other educational institutions, and with external constituent groups. Carries out other administrative duties as assigned by the President.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Earned doctorate

  • Seven years of related experience with increasing administrative experience.
