Duke Energy Senior Economic Development Manager (Central Florida) in United States

This position is responsible for the attraction and location of new business and industry to the Duke Energy Florida (DEF) service area. The position also supports the retention and expansion of existing industries within DEF’s service area. Responsibilities include the preparation of proposals which professionally and accurately represent Duke Energy's ability to serve a client at specific locations and the anticipated rate associated with their energy demands. Incumbent will, as needed, plan and assist with client's in-state project meetings as well as directly engage with economic development leadership across the DEF footprint to include boards, committees and other direct engagement with community stakeholders to enhance the communities Duke Energy serves. The position will support rural areas of opportunity within Duke Energy's Florida footprint.

Responsibilities

  • The incumbent will work throughout his/her assigned territory to support client management, lead generation, site development, and represent the Company to local, state, and regional economic development allies.

  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with key economic development leadership, developers, consultants and decision-makers in support of Duke Energy economic development goals and objectives.

  • Support economic development partners in the enhancement, use and deployment of marketing materials; participate in targeted call missions and other activities to enhance the Company’s competitiveness and success of the Florida economic development program.

  • Collaborate with internal management and stakeholders, to include external relations team members as well as distribution and transmission teams to utilize best practices, provide comprehensive overview of Duke programs and support to partners, identify target industries and sites, and focus on the areas with greatest potential return on investment.

    Basic/Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ years related work experience OR High School/GED degree and 10+ years related work experience

  • Valid driver's license

    Additional Preferred Qualifications (From JDN)

  • Certified Economic Developer (CEcD)

  • Familiarity with st ate and local incentive programs

  • Project management skills

  • Economic Development project management experience at the State, Regional or Local level

  • Experience in business/industrial recruitment efforts

  • Established relationships with State, Regional and local economic development officials

  • Established relationships with site selection consultants

  • Experience in proposal development and site selection RFI responses

  • Previous customer interface experience and/or equivalent external

  • Strong technical skills/understanding of energy industry

  • In depth exposure to management of large manufacturing projects

  • Experience in General Construction, Real Estate Development, Project Finance

  • Proficiency with mapping programs

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal

  • Ability to interface effectively with all levels of management, both internal and external

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities to develop, integrate, market, and implement sales strategies/plans/programs

  • Ability to manage internal and external relationships, networking, benchmarking

  • Effective interpersonal and human relations skills to work with internal and external customers, suppliers, and peers in a team-oriented work environment

  • Highly motivated self-starter

  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills with experience in negotiations, preparation of written documents and presentations

  • Demonstrated ability to focus on details and results-oriented

  • Demonstrated innovative and creative problem solving skills

  • Demonstrated ability to take on ambiguous assignments and create deliverables to support business results

  • Ability to prioritize numerous multi-tasking requests, discerning between what is important and what is urgent

  • Exceptional organizational skills

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to the assigned Duke Energy facility.

  • H ybrid classified position involving in-office, and virtual, remote work.

  • The assigned Duke Energy facility will be Central Florida DE location.
