MKS Instruments Inc Senior Mechanical Engineer in United States

A Day in Your Life at MKS:

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Photon Control Inc., a subsidiary of MKS Instruments, Inc. you play a key role in the design, development and delivery of cutting-edge optical sensor solutions required for advanced semiconductor fabrication. In this role, you will report to the Manager, Mechanical Engineering.

You Will Make an Impact By:

  • Lead the successful development and transfer to operations of new custom optical sensor products.

  • Provide technical leadership and work cross-functionally with team members and other functions to ensure design excellence with a strong emphasis on DFx (Design for manufacturing, assembly, test, reliability, cost etc.).

  • Participate in the development of new capabilities, including design, simulation, materials and processes for next generation optical sensors.

  • Conduct and oversee design reviews and failure modes and effects analysis.

  • Design, build and qualify fixtures and automated test equipment requiring integration of hardware and software for use in development and prototype qualification.

  • Identify and communicate with external suppliers and work with internal supply chain to source and qualify new components.

  • Develop and maintain test documentation, including test plans, test procedures, and test reports.

  • Use statistical analysis software to analyze data and draw data-based conclusions.

  • Generate and supervise the creation of engineering documentation including reports, drawings, bills of materials, assembly instructions, etc.

  • Contribute to culture of intellectual property generation.

    Skills You Bring:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or equivalent.

  • 10+ years of related experience in product development of complex mechanical or optical/mechanical systems.

  • Proven ability to lead and influence in a collaborative, cross-functional group to meet strategic objectives in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary environment.

  • High degree of proficiency in mechanical design, SolidWorks and mechanical component fabrication and geometric tolerancing.

  • FEA knowledge and experience in thermal simulation/management.

  • Hands-on experience in the design, fabrication and validation of automated test jigs and fixtures.

  • Ability to help guide the big picture combined with strong attention to detail.

  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.

    Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with optical systems and/or sensors.

  • Experience with design for excellence (DfX) methods.

  • P. Eng. or eligible for P. Eng.

    Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Perform activities such as sitting, standing, or typing for extended periods of time.

  • Dedication to safety to mitigate hazards that may include heat, cold, fumes, strong magnets, confined spaces, lasers, microwaves, and vacuum/pressure systems.

  • Flexible and willing to work in very fast-paced environment where tasks and priorities may change often.

  • Excellent time management skills and commitment to meet deadlines.

  • Compensation:

    Salary Pay Range: $68,500 - $127,100 per year. This range is a reasonable expectation of pay for this position, based on a wide range of factors including qualifications, experience, education, training, operational and business needs and other considerations.
