Primary Purpose

The Tool and Die Maker Apprentice role will be responsible for machine building, tool and die maintenance and troubleshooting, cleanliness of the tool room, running all equipment, delivering efficient services, and high customer service levels. Is responsible for managing the planning, configuration, construction, and alteration of equipment, machinery, tools, dies and fixtures, manage rework projects that come to the tool room from manufacturing, create prototype parts and models for new product inspects or directs the inspection of construction and installation progress to ensure conformance to established drawings, specifications, and schedules.

Major Responsibilities

Apprentice Assists with Diagnose and repair complex equipment breakdowns. Suggest and implement improvements of existing equipment and/or designs to improve safety, quality, delivery, and productivity. Perform safe and effective operation of all equipment needed to perform job function. Learning the principles, practices, and processes in the function or discipline. Work is supervised daily or weekly with assignments that encompass a well-defined set of tasks. Follows established procedures, processes, or policies. Tool and Die Maker - Journeyman All Tool and Die Apprentice responsibilities Diagnose and repair complex equipment breakdowns. Effectively communicate issues with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) vendors and outside resources for rapid resolution of issues. Perform hands-on training for team members. Assist in designing, fabricating, and welding of mechanical structures, guards and special equipment as required. Provides technical support to project managers and engineers on projects. Strong mechanical aptitude, ability to understand complex issues and systematically work toward resolution. Prioritize, plan, and coordinate the team’s activities in absence of Team Leader Assist maintenance with installation and troubleshoot of new equipment. Education/Training

Tool and Die Maker - Journeyman

In addition to Tool and Die Maker Apprentice Education

High School Diploma or equivalent experience.

5+ years of experience in tool and die making and design.

Certified Tool and Die Maker – Journeyman or equivalent experience.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Tool and Die Maker – Journeyman

In addition to Tool and Die Maker Apprentice knowledge Skills and abilities

Advanced PC knowledge

Demonstrated proficiency and ability to train others in the tool and die craft.

Ability to lead complex tool or equipment build projects

LEVEL OF INDEPENDENCE

Report to Facilities Maintenance Manager or Supervisor

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee is frequently required to use hands to manipulate objects, tools, or controls; and to talk and hear. The employee is regularly required to walk, stoop, crouch, bend and reach above shoulders. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100 pounds with assistance, waist high, up to 10 feet away. This job's specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be working in the typical conditions of a manufacturing environment, including seasonal variations in temperatures and occasional exposure to manufacturing fumes or by-products. The employee must comply with the assigned location PPE requirements, including but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, appropriate gloves, clothing, and shields for required tasks, and closed-toed or safety shoes as required by facility safety policies.
