GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

Kirkwood Community College's Arts & Humanities Department seeks a skilled enthusiastic individual to join our faculty to teach face to face at the Washington Regional Center for Fall 2024. The successful candidate will have strong knowledge base in their discipline and teaching experience at the college level is desirable. Primary duties will include teaching the assigned class, ART-101 Art Appreciation, and communicating with department staff, students, and faculty.

Times for the Fall term include Mon/Wed 7:45-9:15am August 27th – December 13th, 2024.THIS IS A FACE TO FACE CLASSon Kirkwood’s regional campus in Washington, Iowa.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Be able and willing to deliver courses in variable delivery times, methods, and locations as required by the college.

  • Effectively organize, prepare, and teach assigned courses in accordance with established syllabi to students with varying backgrounds and abilities and adjust teaching techniques accordingly.

  • Evaluate student performance and provide timely feedback on a regular basis.

  • Utilize the Kirkwood Learning Management System to post course syllabi and relevant documents and provide access to student grade book.

  • Participate in curriculum development, revision, and assessment activities at course, program, department, and college levels.

  • Maintain relationships with K12, transfer, and community and/or industry partners.

  • Regularly engage in professional development activities and actively seek information about developing trends and ideas.

  • Perform other related work duties as assigned.

  • Send or submit your course syllabi to the office staff at the beginning of each semester.

  • Check rosters to ensure that students in your section are registered for your section.

  • Respond to students and to their work in a civil and timely fashion.

  • Report midterm grades and final grades accurately and by the published deadlines.

  • Respond to staff and administrative communications about individual students.

  • Respond with data for the department assessment projects.

  • Attend to your Kirkwood email each weekday.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:

Position involves sitting and/or standing most of the time in a studio setting. Frequent (34-66%) repetitive motion, stooping, crouching, pushing, puling, carrying and exerting up to 10 pounds. Also frequent (34-66%) reaching, standing, walking, lifting, grasping. Constant (67-100%) talking, hearing and viewing various types of close work.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters degree with 12 graduate credits in art, including an Art History survey course.

  • College Teaching Experience preferred

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:

  • Master of Arts in Art History or Master of Fine Arts degree

  • Ability to demonstrate successful teaching in a variety of styles.

  • Outstanding leadership, organizational and communication skills.
