Aerotek Extrusion Operator in Washington, Indiana

Job Title: Extrusion Operator

Job Description

The Machine Operator is responsible for the operation of PP extruders, co-extruders, hoppers, loaders, downstream, and other related equipment involved in the production of PVC products. This role involves packaging finished products and inspecting them to ensure they meet our highest quality standards. The position requires working with all levels of management and maintaining positive professional contact with external clients to ensure smooth flow of information and materials.

Responsibilities

  • Produce PP products that meet or exceed all quality standards for both physical and color tests while performing quality tests at a minimum of every two hours.

  • Limit the production of out-of-spec material by following all production procedures.

  • Develop a routine with the extrusion lines that ensures continuous production with limited downtime.

  • Follow all shutdown and startup procedures to protect all equipment from damage.

  • Cooperate with other operators to provide continuous coverage for all extrusion lines during breaks, jam-ups, etc.

  • Assist line packers and material handlers when needed during breaks, jam-ups, and other high-demand times.

  • Limit downtime with efficient line recovery in case of jam-ups, power outages, etc.

  • Clean and handle dies, nozzles, tooling, etc., in a professional manner to limit damage to these expensive items.

Essential Skills

  • 1 to 2 years of experience in plastic extrusion.

  • 1+ years of experience in plastics manufacturing.

  • Proficient operation of extruders and downstream equipment used to produce PP products.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and use machine manuals to research warning lights, gauges, and operations.

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Organizational and time management skills.

  • Basic math ability (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) and understanding of conceptual math (geometry, charts, graphs).

Work Environment

The work environment is an open office setting with moderate to loud noise levels. The standard automotive plant environment requires the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, steel-toe shoes, and hearing protection. Personal attire standards may apply. The role involves walking or standing for extended periods, bending, squatting, reaching above shoulder level, and using hands and fingers for handling and feeling. The ability to drive and perform repetitive tasks such as simple grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling is also required. The schedule includes night shifts, weekends, and holidays, with the potential for overtime on short notice. Occasionally, lifting or carrying up to 60 pounds may be required.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Washington, Indiana.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $15.00 - $17.00/hr.
