Position Purpose:

As a Senior Buyer, you will be the purchasing ambassador for your assigned OpCos ensuring accurate and timely flow of information. You will work with local and regional vendors alike to create sustainable and successful partnerships to add value for our vendors, our customers and Core-Mark. The position will also provide opportunities to engage with local marketing responsibilities such as helping facilitate trade shows and other customer related conferences. A successful candidate will have effectively demonstrated an ability analyze and create strategies intended to improve category performance through the development and execution of strategic business plans.

Primary Responsibilities:

Communication:

  • Ensure OpCo specific needs (new customers, operational constraints, seasonality, etc.) are communicated to centralized purchasing team.

  • Communicate purchasing specific initiatives that would impact operational personnel.

  • Establish solid relationships with OpCo president and all departments within the OpCo.

  • Meet with OpCo president monthly to review and discuss the “traffic report” from previous period.

  • Respond back to centralized purchasing team on any inventory concerns.

Purchasing:

  • Reviewing and maintaining forecasting, costing and inventory levels to ensure achievement of targeted fill rate for locally assigned vendors.

  • Monitoring and communicating all aspects of our PFG Food Service programs.

  • Identifying and creating solutions to a variety of inventory conditions including spoils, aged inventory and taking point on the SKU Rationalization project.

  • Building successful supplier relationships.

  • Meet all corporate initiatives and deadlines.

Merchandise Income:

  • Negotiate with suppliers to develop and execute OpCo specific income opportunities.

  • Maintaining promotions and allowance with assigned vendors.

  • Engage and facilitate marketing initiatives with customers such as flyers, ads and assisting with OpCo or regional Trade Shows.

  • Manage audit process to ensure all deductions are legitimate.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Miscellaneous:

  • Travel when required for position.

  • Understand and review OpCo monthly P&L.

  • Active role in local leadership and staff meetings.

  • Maintain Safe work environment, adhere to safety procedures.

The ideal candidate should possess the following:

  • Experience negotiating merchandising income opportunities a plus.

  • Ability to analyze multiple forms of data as it relates to the decision-making process.

  • Demonstrated professional leadership and negotiation abilities.

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and problem solve.

  • Able to work independently and communicate effectively (written and verbal)

  • Proficiency in Excel, other Microsoft Office products, and Windows-based programs.

  • Familiarity or working knowledge of R6, AS400 and SAP highly desired.

  • Ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of vendors.

  • Knowledge of or ability to learn principles and practices of Procurement, Sales and Marketing.

Required Qualifications:

4-year degree in related field or equivalent experience/training within the field.

2 or more years of combined buying, planning, sales, and allocation responsibilities.
