Kansas Employer Corrections Shift Supervisor - 2nd Adult Corrections in Wichita, Kansas

Leads, directs, manages, and supervises an assigned shift operation of a 24-hour correctional facility.

  • Performance Management - Supervises subordinate staff and assigns shift coverage and priorities; assists in interviewing and hiring staff; assists in orientation of new staff; completes payroll, evaluates staff performance; serves as a role model. May initiate disciplinary actions for staff members who violate policy and procedure. Ensures staff are trained and evaluated on their knowledge of and adherence to compliance policies and procedures specific to their jobs.
  • Facility Management - Monitors the care and security of clients and staff. May admit clients in and out of the facility; check court records and status, assist in intake screening of clients. Schedules and facilitates searches, tornado and fire drills. When needed, ensures that staff collect breath analysis tests to ensure that clients maintain their sobriety; collects urinalysis test for drug screens; conducts area and room searches to ensure facility is free of contraband. Ensures that medication procedures are followed with accurate documentation. Reviews reports and other communications to maintain awareness of activities. Investigates incidents, conducts internal investigations, and determines consequences.
  • Quality Assurance - Ensures that staff assign and monitor client activities and facilitates room cleanliness; conduct hourly head count to track and monitor client whereabouts. Oversees the maintenance of facility supply inventories; the monitoring of client personal property. May assign staff duties to conduct checks to ensure clients are at their assigned location; maintain client records identifying room location and bed number, and level client is on in the program. Appraises client behavior information and updates the same; prepares narrative and non-narrative reports regarding client behavior and status; monitors client activities. Communicates and documents effectively through verbal and written communications, to include required reports, behavioral notes, log books, scheduled team meetings, and shift turnover to oncoming shift. Prepares and maintains various reports and statistics. Conducts facility inspections and quality assurance checks then documents and facilitates corrective actions.

Minimum Qualification: Three accredited hours from a college or university in Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Social Work, or a related field. Transcript verifying education credits is required. A combination of four years of experience working with juvenile or adult clients in a program or facility environment, with progressive responsibilities. Must have two years supervisory work experience. Professional references are required to verify the related work experience. Facility staff shall be at least twenty-one years of age with a minimum of three years age difference between the staff member and the oldest client who can be admitted to the facility. Must possess first aid, CPR, and physical restraint certification or the ability to acquire within initial period of employment. Valid Drivers License and good driving record that meets the requirement of Sedgwick County Fleet Vehicle Operation and Usage Policy. Personal vehicle for use when county vehicle is not available (employee reimbursement is provided by County). Proof of liability insurance on personal vehicle. Pass legal background check, Child and Adult Abuse & Neglect Central Registry checks, KCJIS Security Policy (fingerprint) check, and pre-employment screen for alcohol and drugs. Must also meet the required conditions contained in KSA 65-516 and KAR 28-4-356.
