PRIMARY FUNCTION:\ The Wilmington Police Cadet Program is a police apprenticeship designed for individuals aged 18 to 21, offering training and diverse work assignments. This program allows qualified young men and women to gain valuable experience by working closely with community members and sworn officers of the Wilmington Police Department. Cadets rotate through various divisions within the department, performing a range of duties that familiarize them with the daily activities of sworn officers. By engaging in a variety of job functions, cadets contribute to the department\'s efficiency while gaining real-world, valuable experience.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:\ The duties of a cadet will be specified by the Division Commander his/her designee. Such duties and activities may include:\ \ Assisting sworn members of the department with various assignments\ \ Traffic Control at special events.\ \ Sobriety Checkpoints\ \ Recruitment efforts\ \ Attend community meetings\ \ Foot/bicycle patrols in riverfront/ Downtown areas\ \ Assisting with events such as parades and concerts
WORKING CONDITONS:\ \ Normal office environment.\ \ Frequently required to sit, talk, or hear.\ \ Occasionally required to walk, use hands to operate, finger, handle or feel objects.\ \ Specific vision abilities are required by this job, including close vision and the ability to adjust focus.\ \ Occasionally lift a maximum of 25 pounds.
