Job Description Summary

Systems engineering is a cross-functional engineering discipline centered on an approach, mindset, and process. All activities that consider both the business and the technical needs of the customers with the goal of providing a quality product that meets the user’s needs. The discipline that executes a robust process of design, creation, and optimization of systems, consisting of identification and quantification of system requirements, creation of alternate system design concepts, performance of design trade studies, selection and implementation of the best designs and verification that the design is properly integrated and executed. Process that proceeds from concept to production to operation.

Job Description

Responsible for systems engineering activities that support:

  • GE's fleet of BWRs including the BWRX-300 Small Modular Reactor (SMR) and/or

Primary design focus areas for our Mechanical Systems teams include:

  • BWR Mechanical Balance of Plant (BOP) Systems such as Turbine, Turbine Bypass Valves, Main Condenser, Moisture Separator Reheater, and Feedwater Systems.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Perform system design activities including: system design specifications, piping and instrument diagrams (P&IDs), logic diagrams, process flow calculations and diagrams, hydraulic resistance calculations, equipment sizing, FMEA evaluations, and thermodynamic and heat/fluid flow transfer.

  • Develop and maintain component specifications for long lead components such as the Main Turbine, Turbine Bypass Valves, Main Condenser, Moisture Separator Reheater, and Feedwater Heaters.

  • Coordinate design activities and review supplier deliverables for long components.

  • Responsible for analysis and design work supporting system requirements and specifications.

  • Conducts component and product integration. All activities that span multiple components and products and are concerned with how to integrate for maximum performance and operability.

  • Manages product and systems requirements, specifications, and flow down.

  • Drives validation and verification activities for the overall product/system, including system level testing.

  • Responsible for defining product requirements for the module / component / subcontractors and partners teams.

  • Manages interface between components and execution organizations.Responsible for driving CTQ / Risk trades within the teams designing the components. Manages the overall product configuration and configuration control system.

  • Broadening knowledge of own technical discipline to execute policy/strategy. May include support roles with specialized technical field of knowledge; still acquiring higher level knowledge and skills.

  • Basic understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. Good understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.

  • May have some autonomy to make decisions within a defined framework. Resolves issues in situations that require good technical knowledge and judgment within established procedures. Consults more senior team members for issues outside of defined instructions/parameters.

  • A job at this level requires good interpersonal skills and may be required to lead a junior team. For customer facing roles, develops strong customer relationships and serves as the interface between customer and GE. Explains technical information to others.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Nuclear Engineering.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an Engineering role.

  • Minimum of 2 years of mechanical systems experience.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • The preferred work location for this role is at the GEH Headquarters in Wilmington, NC; but highly qualified (US based) remote candidates will be considered.

  • Ability and willingness to occasionally travel to domestic and international plant sites (less than 10%)

Desired Characteristics:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in an engineering or technical discipline.

  • SRO license qualifications or plant experience desired.

  • Strong Leadership skills.

  • Professional Engineering Certification or willingness to obtain P.E Certification

  • Knowledge of working within a regulated environment (nuclear).

  • Knowledge of quality standards and systems (e.g., NQA-1 and ISO 9000).

  • Experience and/or interest in nuclear power industry.

  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and cope under pressure.

The base pay range for this position is $99k-140k. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for bonuses, such as a performance bonus/variable incentive compensation/equity. This position is expected to close on 6/30/2024.

The company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120%, or 130% of salary in certain areas.
