Are you an experienced engineer seeking an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research and development projects? Boeing Canada Winnipeg is currently looking for a talented Research and Development (R&D) Engineer to join our team. This role works onsite at the Winnipeg office and reports to the R&D manager.

As a Research and Development Engineer, you will work in our advanced lab utilizing specialized equipment to fabricate and test aerospace components. You will play a crucial part in supporting both production and development lab activities and collaborating with various engineering departments. Your expertise in composite fabrication, coupon extraction and mechanical testing will be crucial. You will support aircraft component fabrication through requirements definition, address production challenges, and develop new and innovative manufacturing processes.

Position Responsibilities

  • Support continuous improvement of products and processes by researching, designing, prototyping, , fabricating, testing, evaluating and implementing new concepts, materials, processes, equipment and technology.

  • Hands-on design and development of manufacturing processes for composite parts using a variety of tools, including NC milling machines and general machining equipment

  • Design & fabricate fixtures, composite panels, operate lab equipment and maintain lab space

  • Develops and supports qualification tests of new materials, parts, tools and processes to meet requirements.

  • Evaluates and implements emerging technologies to achieve business needs. Collects information to support definition of requirements for tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes used in the manufacture and engineering design of products.

  • Develops, maintains, and validates revisions to procedures and specifications for producibility, safety and quality.Incorporates changes to specifications and other documents to manage materials, parts and processes.

  • Applies knowledge of Boeing parts, materials, and processes to assess, resolve and optimize product and process issues throughout the Boeing product lifecycle.

  • Generates test plans, identifies and categorizes failures, document results and recommendations and takes corrective action for manufacturing, design and documentation issues.Manages material test programs.

  • Uses project management tools, quality and Lean principles to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • 5+ years’ experience in relevant Engineering fields including: manufacturing, design, research & development, composite fabrication

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering

  • Must be registered or be eligible to register with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (EGM) as a Professional Engineer or Engineer in Training

  • Must be legally able to work in Canada

  • Individual must not pose a risk for safeguarding of controlled goods

  • Must be eligible to handle US export-controlled data

Preferred Qualifications (Education/Experience):

  • Experience within a hands-on manufacturing environment

  • Experience with composite material processing

  • Experience working on CNC milling machines and general machining equipment

  • Experience in utilizing industry CAD systems (e.g. CATIA/ENOVIA) & creating NC programs

  • Experience using universal testing machines for tensile, compression and fatigue testing

  • Experience in design and execution of experiments

  • Experience with development of new products, systems or technologies

  • Knowledge of aviation industry

Typical Education and Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience).

Relocation:

Relocation assistance is not a negotiable benefit for this position. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.

Additional Information:

This requisition is for a locally hired position in Canada. The employer is Boeing Canada. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada. Benefits and pay are determined by Canada and are not on Boeing US-based payroll. This is not an expatriate assignment.
