The Regional Nutrition Manager (RNM) is responsible for promoting the parenteral nutrition (PN) program with acute infusion sales in a designated region and is charged with driving growth of PN referrals, starts of care, revenue, and income. The RNM serves as a PN SME to internal clinical staff and to the healthcare provider, consumer, and payer communities

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Sales Support

  • Works directly with Nutrition and Acute Sales leadership to develop overall PN sales strategy and plan implementation, according to established company and nutrition program goals

  • Assists the sales team with the identification and development of new nutrition support business opportunities including compounding agreements and, healthcare systems/corporate account partnership

  • Works with the sales team to implement sales and clinical programs to drive PN start and revenue growth in a defined region

  • Participates in training plan development and new hire and ongoing training of the Acute Sales team, at the regional and national level

  • Achieves or surpasses defined regional sales objectives for the PN business

  • Tracks and analyzes PN referrals, starts of care, revenue and gross margin in each of the region’s branches on a monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis utilizing the Sales Reporting Tool

  • Keeps abreast of the home PN industry and market: competition, innovations, PN demographics and trends, reporting to management

  • Serves as an SME to healthcare providers, professional organizations and non-profit disease state groups, to develop relationship selling and PN growth. Uses corporate and branch resources to promote all lines of infusion business as appropriate

  • Provides in-services and continuing educational (CE) programs to branch staff and external referral sources, serving as a nutrition support SME

  • Assists Nutrition Program Director with development and implementation of new CE and training programs for internal and external clinicians

  • Maintains knowledge base regarding reimbursement coverage and payer-specific profitability metrics. Assists with PN qualification for payer coverage, as needed

  • Attends and participates in territory and national sales meetings

  • Acts as consultant to the internal nutrition support team and external healthcare professionals for parenteral and enteral nutrition patient clinical management with appropriate documentation per company protocols and standards of care

  • Utilizes electronic medical records and patient documentation accurately and in a timely manner, as required by UHG and Optum Infusion protocols and policies

  • Represents self in a professional and ethical manner, complying with all applicable Company policies and procedures

  • Takes responsibility for maintaining employment requirements: completion of orientation, current nutritional knowledge, professional registration, licensure as appropriate, certifications and health requirements as specified by internal and external regulatory bodies

  • Participates in professional organizations such as ASPEN, NHIA and Oley Foundation

  • Attends regional and national conferences as required

  • Adheres to all UHG Policies, Procedures, and Standards of Conduct as referenced in company employee intranet

  • Completes mandatory annual in-services required by the Company

  • Reports any known or suspected violations of policies and procedures, regulations, or standards of conduct as per Company policies

  • Performs other duties as requested

Years of post-high school education can be substituted/is equivalent to years of experience

Required Qualifications:

  • Registered dietitian (RD) through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and licensed by the state, as appropriate

  • Active professional affiliations

  • 5+ years of clinical nutritional support experience

  • Proven ability to perform presentations to various audiences

  • Ability to travel at least 50% throughout designated region

  • Ability to attend regional/national meetings as required

  • Reside in the designated region

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in Nutrition Support by ASPEN

  • Certified Nutrition Support Clinician-CNSC

  • Home infusion experience in clinical and/or sales

  • Active professional affiliations

Connecticut, New York, Rhode Island or New Jersey Residents Only: The salary range for this role is $88,000 to $173,200 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
