Brief Position Description

The Physical Security Engineer Sr, Lead designs, deploys and maintains physical security systems such as access control, intrusion detection, video surveillance, and other security systems as required to protect Entergy’s personnel, property, and assets and to ensure that it complies with NERC CIP regulatory requirements. Scope of the role includes corporate offices, field offices, substations, non-nuclear power generation sites, control centers and data centers. The Engineer will assist in maintaining a world-class, premiere physical security program that provides employees with a seamless experience while keeping them and our assets secure.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leads in the product evaluation and selection process

  • Develop processes and physical security standards

  • Train other engineers and technicians on processes and standards

  • Ensures alignment to and the enforcement of documented hardware standards

  • Works with Corporate Security to perform site assessments and determine requirements

  • Provides ROM level estimates to customers for fundings

  • Provides detailed design documents and scope of work for RFQ/RFP processes

  • Works with vendors to obtain estimates

  • Works with project manager to establish schedules and budget

  • Oversees implementation of physical security projects

  • Ensures quality control is maintained throughout project implementation

  • Be the subject matter expert in all areas of physical security systems

  • Provide peer checks and oversight of work products by other engineers

  • Collaborates in the development and execution of strategy, roadmap, and delivery plans for Physical Security technology

  • Collaborate with peers across all IT and Security organizations

  • Presentation to auditors, CSO, compliance teams, management, and customers

  • Provides assurance that approved physical security system designs are maintained for assigned sites

  • Performs functional testing and documentation of results to ensure equipment remains compliant

  • Enforcement of processes and procedures to implement, manage and retire physical security systems

  • Enforcement of processes and procedures for the appropriate use of physical access controls

  • Tier 3 engineer support for contractors and other tier 2 support groups

  • Day-to-day operations and maintenance of physical security systems and components

  • Support of NERC CIP audits, investigations or other physical security incidents as required

Experience needed

  • Ten or more years of enterprise experience with physical security systems in a distributed environment

  • Ten years hands-on experience managing physical security systems and technologies such as video monitoring and recording systems, card access control systems, ingress/egress control points or other physical perimeter monitoring systems

  • Ten years’ experience leading teams of people, including internal and outsourced resources

  • Five years’ experience working in NERC CIP regulatory environment

Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position

  • Ability to work independently as part of a larger team with strong organizational and time management skills

  • Working understanding of physical security systems concepts and technologies required

  • Broad knowledge of security operations and incident response (monitoring, log gathering, event correlation, configuration, databases, etc.)

  • Understanding of tools and technologies for physical security such as card access controls, video surveillance, cameras, motion/intrusion detection, etc.

  • Understanding of security operations, access management, intrusion detection, and physical security

  • Understanding of security, risk, and control frameworks and standards such as ISO 27001 and 27002, SANS-CAG, NIST, FISMA, COBIT, COSO and ITIL

  • Knowledge of current IT Security trends and evolutions in physical security

  • Thorough understanding of IP networks, VLANs and wireless communications used in physical security applications

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

  • Available to travel, may be extensive at times based on business needs or in response to storms

  • Capable of organizing work demands and meeting deadlines

  • Excellent work ethic requiring minimum direct supervision

Education required

Bachelor’s degree in industrial controls, IT or a related discipline or advanced work experience applicable to the role

Any certificates, licenses, etc., required for the position

Security Certifications (PSP, CPP, CISSP, CISM, Sec+, CEH) a plus

Any specifically applicable vendor certifications (Genetec, Lenel) are a plus or willingness to earn at least one within the first year of employment as part of individual development if not already certified

WORKING CONDITIONS
