Wythe County Public Schools Bus Drivers in Wytheville, Virginia

Primary Function:

To safely transport passengers between assigned stops and schools, according to specified routes and time schedules. Maintains order between trips and adheres to safety rules when loading and unloading passengers.

Qualifications:

  1. Is at least 21 years of age and possesses a high school diploma or GED certificate or any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.
  2. Possesses a valid Virginia Commercial Driver's License with School Bus and Passenger Bus endorsement.
  3. Meets requirements of an annual physical examination.
  4. Meets all other requirements of the State Board of Education for persons employed to drive a school bus.
  5. Submit periodically to drug testing.

Reports to: Principal of Assigned School and Supervisor of Facilities and Transportation

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Performs pre-trip inspection of school bus; reports operating and equipment deficiencies.
  2. Cleans bus interior and exterior.
  3. Fuels bus as necessary.
  4. Adheres to all traffic laws observes mandatory safety regulations for school bus drivers.
  5. Picks up and delivers students to and from schools.
  6. Transports only authorized personnel.
  7. Reports all accidents and completes appropriate reports.
  8. Runs periodic emergency bus evacuation drills.
  9. Transports students to special events and field trips.
  10. Records mileage; maintains records and prepares reports as necessary.
  11. Maintains discipline on the bus and makes reports as necessary.
  12. Makes his/her bus available for scheduled maintenance and/or repairs.
  13. Performs other related tasks as assigned.

Terms of Employment: 180-day contract. Salary is established by the School Board

Evaluation: Performance on this job is evaluated annually in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations for classified personnel.
