Commander, Navy Installations BOWLING CENTER ASSISTANT in Yokosuka Naval Base, Japan

Summary This position is located in the Bowling Center, Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department, U.S. Commander Fleet Activities, Yokosuka, Japan. The Bowling Center provides recreation and food and beverage services. The incumbent assists the Bowling Center Manager in the day-to-day operations of the Bowling Center. Responsibilities Manages lane reservations for leagues, tournaments and other parties, children birthday parties and special events, including single sailors, to the maximum benefit of the entire customer base. Plans, proposes and coordinates tournaments and other special events. Maintains computerized files for payroll, personal locker usage, customer attendance, and material orders and transfers. Conducts inventories and periodic inventory checks for all Bowling Center operations including bowling, pro shop and snack bar per Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) in order to prevent pilferage. Issues and collects fees for personal lockers to clientele and maintains secure records of combinations. Prepares correspondence for approval by Bowling Center Manager. Conducts cash handling controls per SOP including paperwork for ship discounts. Performs surprise cash counts of change funds. Performs all special requirements for bowling leagues, per United States Bowling Congress instructions. Provides technical assistance to other MWR facilities on a requested basis. Supervises the Center in the absence of the Bowling Center Manager. Conducts employee work unit indoctrination, on the job training and arranges for more formal training for all Bowling Center staff in the absence of the Bowling Center Manager. Performs other related duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Knowledge of administrative methods and practices involved in the operation of a bowling, pro shop, and snack bar operation. Ability to perform control functions to account for inventory and cash receipts. Knowledge of reservation practices for special events and management thereof. Knowledge of and experience in customer service and satisfaction practices. Ability to handle patron complaints and actively interact with patrons regarding their suggestions, comments, concerns and compliments. Ability to use basic computer software. Knowledge of bowling equipment, galley equipment and basic office equipment. Ability to quickly learn a specific integrated computerized cash register/lane operation system. Ability to deal effectively with the general public. Ability to lead. Education When education is a basic requirement for the position, or when substituting education for experience, applicants MUST submit a copy of your high school transcripts, college transcript, or a list of courses, which includes grades earned, completion dates, and quarter, and/or semester hours earned as part of your application package. Foreign education must include evidence that it is comparable to education received at accredited educational institutions in the United States. Transcripts from foreign colleges must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency in order to be considered.
